We love the E30 M3 as much as the next person, but holy guacamole that’s a lot of money for an E30.

For context, Hagerty reckons that the average price for a 1988 M3 is $56,000. Granted, this example has just 8,000 miles on the odometer but we are still on the precipice of an economic recession, aren’t we?

Painted in Zinnoberrot over a tan interior, the car sold through Bring a Trailer is pretty minty. It was purchased new in California and stayed with the owner until his death in the mid-90s. From there it was garaged by the family of the deceased until it was sold to the current owner in 2010.

All the belts and fluids and maintenance work has been done recently and although the wheels aren’t the originals, the originals are provided in the sale. Apparently the front driver’s side fender was refinished and the passenger-side fender show paint-depth readings that are slightly higher than the rest of the car.

It’s not ridiculous to think The car has accolades, historical and recent and it started the M3 trend, so it’s not ridiculous to think that values will grow over time. But five times market values seems steep.
