F1 racing used to be colored by country. Germany was silver (thus your Mercedes silver,) Italy was red, England was green (hence the name "British racing green") the US was blue with white stripes etc......every country had a unique color or color combo.Magna said:For example, I would say Ferrari's color is red, while Mercedes Benz's color is silver. I suppose Jaguar's color is racing green.
IMO, BMW's color is white.
Right! And since BMW decided to use a variation of silver, but something that was unique they decided that Steel Gray would be the 'official' color for theMike 325xi said:
So I personally would say it's still silver along with Mercedes, Ausi, Porsche etc...IMHO.![]()
Actually US was White with Blue stripes. Remember first GT-350, GT-40.Mike 325xi said:

France was Blue, hence French Racing Blue. I had a Fiat 850 in that color.
Japan was White with Red.

Per this chart white is the official color for Germany but that silver was used often because they would leave the body as unpainted metal...I assume that's how the famous Mercedes and Auto Union silver cars came to be.aldo said:I used to be very much into F-1, and my memory may be fading, however I believe the "official" color for Germany was Imperial White......Some one might want to double check that though....
Thanks for the chart... Lots of good info. It also explains why Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team NART Ferraris were White and Blue, the USA colors......Mike 325xi said:
