List of problems you may encounter and solutions to fix them

1) Problem:

When i choose "Read Coding Data" I get this error:

Transaktions-Report: Aktion: Codierdaten lesen

CAS [40] [C271460]
readCPS o.k.
cafd_0000000f-005_022_007 Fehler:
File for "cafd_0000000f-005_022_007" not found! [C012]

Solution:

Make Sure you have copied the SWE contents from PSDZData/SWE to C:/EsysData/SWE (You should have it in both the locations)

2) Problem:

I open E-Sys and when I hit connect get the pop up which has my VIN next to that radio buttion, but nothing shows up in the Target box.

Solution:

More than likely the "dist" folders missing from your installation. The folders should be empty, but they need to be there:
and make sure the folder names/directory is correct.

I'm having some trouble connecting to my car all of a sudden.

I can run the ZGW search and it will find the car but esys gives me a grayed out box for connecting via vin and a message that says "No ZGW Available"

I have tried ripping out Esys and reinstalling to no avail. Firewall is off for this connection. and I am able to see the list of Targets just no connect bus.

I was also able to do some coding before on this laptop with no issues, this problem just cropped up.

Any ideas?

#58 ·
And nothing is different about either your setup, or your car since when it was working with no issues?

#59 · (Edited)
Not that I am aware of on the laptop. The laptop is exactly the same it only gets used for coding.

The car was in for service and had an update run but I had been able to get in to it since then but only once.

Edit: got it working on another computer... odd but at least I can code again.

connection problems

I was using E-Sys a while ago and had everything working fine. Fast forward a year, I took my 2012 328i to the dealer to take care of a recalled sensor and they reset everything I programmed. Well, I now have a new laptop so I had to download and re-install all the coding software.

The issue I'm having is that I cannot connect to the E-Sys software. In E-Sys the Connect via VIN box is grayed out and says No ZGW Available even though the ZGW software is clearly reading my VIN.

One of the first tips in this thread was to make sure the "dist" folder is located within each of the mainseries folders, which it is. I also made sure the EDIABAS.ini file has ENET listed next to interface as another thread suggested. Attached is a screenshot of the grayed out VIN connection.

Any thoughts? Am I not making a proper connection to my car somehow and if not how was the software even able to pull up my VIN if it isn't?

UPDATE: Turns our one of my network cable wires broke at the solder joint. I can connect just fine now.

Now I just need to find an updated HU_CIC data set or something because I cannot edit the file at all. o_O

If you need that CAFD, you have ISTA/P 2.49.2 on your car. Besides needing cafd_000000f9-007_006_009 for the Head Unit, it also means you won't be able to code anything until you update both your E-Sys and PSdZData.

Hi Shawn,

had already coded my F01. It cam back today with new firmware on it, all my changes are gone. Tried to recode it again with 3.18.x and corresponding psdzdata files. But all i tried ended up in:

Transaktions-Report: Aktion: FDL Codieren

Abbruch!
Asynchrone Programmierung fehlgeschlagen! [C049]
openECUConnection for link AMP_TOP_37_ETHERNET failed with error MCDError Severity: 2051, Error Code: 49184, Description: Object with name not found, Vendor Code: 3, Vendor Description: provided name AMP_TOP_37_ETHERNET doesn't map to an item [1694] - VEHICLE_ERROR

Looks like that psdzdata or e-sys is in an wrong way, any clues???

Thank you in advice

Kind regards

Stefan

Yes. You need new PSdZData, which in turn necessitates newer E-Sys with Patch / Token.

Hi

I've finally got my ENET cable, E-Sys software 3.23.4, PSDZ data 50.4 and token/patch. I then followed all the instructions to set up E-Sys etc and connected the cable from my Sept 2013 F10, to my Win7 64 bit laptop. Connection is eventually established (with yellow triangle). When opening E-Sys, then clicking the connection button, the 'Connection via VIN' option is greyed out, with "No ZGW available" in the box next to that option.

This is my first attempt at connecting, unlike other posts where they seem to have successfully connected before. I have turned off wireless - as well as disabled firewall. I'm not running through a VM and followed the instructions to the letter (checked for 'dist' folder, copied all 7 folders etc).

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks

If your Motor was not running, try again with it running. Proper Voltage is critical, and sometimes the Battery alone is not enough.

#72 ·
Just tried that - same thing.

The output from "ZGW_SEARCH" is as follows:

State = 1
RemoteHost = 169.254.255.255
RemoteHostIP =
RemotePort = 6811
LocalHostName= A1C-0818
LocalIP = 169.254.212.30
LocalPort = 49156

So it seems fine other than getting the IP of the remote host (the car).

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling everything too.

I thought that too so checked the solder/connections and they are fine. Nice cable in fact.

It looks like the network connection is working just fine (i.e. disconnecting the cable results in disconnection of network) - just that the software isn't aware of it.

Could there be a setting file somewhere that is overriding something else?
When "ZGW_SEARCH.exe" is run in compatibility mode, it shows the output window, but throws an error relating to "MSWINSCK.OCX" when run natively in Win7. Could that be related?
Does "E-sys.exe" need to run in compatibility mode too?

Thanks

#75 ·
The problem with ZGW_Serach is you need to register MSWINSCK.ocx to your OS.

From the Command Line, enter:

regsvr32 /u "C:\EDIABAS\Hardware\ENET\MSWINSCK.OCX"
regsvr32 "C:\EDIABAS\Hardware\ENET\MSWINSCK.OCX"

But, this has nothing to do with your connection issue, and E-Sys does not have to be run in Compatibility mode.

Do you have the Windows Firewall enabled, or are your running any Virus or Spyware programs? If so, you need to disable them all.

#76 · (Edited)
Yes, I saw investigated the ZGW_Search issue and registered the .ocx after I posted the above.

Re Firewall etc
Yes, I disabled the firewall and turned off A/V etc, disabled all network interfaces (other than the LAN port of course), and even disabled IPV6 on the LAN interface too (just in case).

I'm completely stumped!

I looked at the E-Sys config files and notice that there's a file called "externalApp.xml" which appears to be calling:

..\..\fat\startTransmitter.bat

...which in turn seems to be interested in the .NET Framework V2 (which I don't have - just V4). Without looking at the 'transmitter' stuff in more detail to figure out what it does, is there a possibility that this could be the source of the issue?

Many thanks for looking at this by the way.

All that is needed for E-Sys is Java. I am not sure what is going on with your setup. I would uninstall everything, then install it again.

#78 ·
Right - I've uninstalled everything and started again. I even installed on WinXP (albeit in a VM with a bridged network connection). Same issue - "Connection via VIN" is greyed out.

I can tell it's not the cable - I installed a DHCP server on my laptop and sniffed the traffic - the car is definitely connecting via the cable (with the engine off too) and is able to get an IP address form the DHCP server.

E-Sys however just doesn't want to know.

I am now downloading version 3.18.4. I have no idea whether this will work or not, but I thought I'd give it a try in the hope that I can at least get a connection (whether or not I can code will be different matter I'm sure).

#79 ·
Shawn - you we're absolutely correct. It was the cable all along despite being brand new and from a rebutable source.

I reinstalled the older E-Sys software and of course encountered the same issue. I reinstalled the old software on XP - same issue.

Before deciding that I'd give up on the whole thing I checked the connections again. All seemed fine - until looking more closely... Basically the soldered cable had come away, but the cable sheath had been melted onto the connection making it look like it was a secure solder. It wasn't.

I resoldered the connection and - voila, connected first time!

Sorry Shawn - I should have looked more closely. It would have saved me hours. Thanks for the pointers all the same.

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for the softwares and files. Everything is working.

I have some questions, thanks in advance foryour time in answering them.

1. I had some issues establishing a connection with my F30 using OBD-Ethernet cable. In my laptop with windows 7 it does not assign an IP automatically (C:/EDIABAS/Hardware/ENET/ZGW_SEARCH.exe shows blank even after multiple "Refresh")

2. As an alternative I used another Laptop to find the IP assigned to the F30 and then in the C:/EDIABAS/Bin/EDIABAS.INI file gave that IP to the Remotehost under XEthernet, then assigned another Class B IP manually to my Laptop.

3. C:/EDIABAS/Hardware/ENET/ZGW_SEARCH.exe still shows blank, but I can now establish the connection in E-Sys by using Connection via Gateway URL and tcp://169.254.102.1:6801 which is the IP of F30.

Then I can read/activate FA, and see various things since then the connection is established.

Except E-Sys no other tool has connectivity.

My question is if my method is correct and if it is OK now to do some coding.

Thanks
Saquib

Error Reading HU_CIC on 2011 F10

I have a pre-Combox 2011 F10 that I am trying to activate VIM on. I am using Esys 3.18.14 and can successfully code from modules such as FRM and CAS. However when I try to Read Coding Data for HU_CIC, I receive the file not found error shown in the attached file. I have used PSDZDATA v46.1 and v47.4 but both with the same result. Any suggestions?

TIA.

E-Sys does not have a "BMWgroup" folder, so I have no clue what you have going on there.

Anyway, if you suspect you actually have viruses, scan and clean it.

#91 ·
That all depends on if you clean the E-Sys Application folder and / or the E-Sys Data folder, what it finds, and if it can't clean a file, if it quarantines or deletes it.

If it does, reinstall E-Sys. No big deal.

scanned and cleaned all 3 files: in "C:/" root
EC_Apps
EDIABAS
DATA

95 cleaned. "lpk.dll" was deleted and it reoccurred in:

there are a lot more occurrences but i didnt want to post them all. fill xml log attached.

reinstall everything from scratch and keep the viruses?

Why would you keep the viruses? Clean your machine, and reinstall your applications as needed using clean virus free installers. Same goes for any Data files.
