Before I order the V1 unit, just wanna try again to see if I can get some inputs from you guys.

I have tinted windows and according to the V1 site, tinted window will degrade the unit's performance. Any of you out there has tinted window + V1?

What are the specs I should get from the tinting shop in order to help with the buying process?

Thanks in advance.

I have tinted windows and while my analysis is only empirical, my range does not appear to be negatively affected to a degree that I can measure. That includes experiences where bogies have approached me from the rear on the highway. My V1 goes off well before they can accurately clock me. Then again, this is only important if they are running "hot" and does not apply to instant on radar.

Two key points to remember.

1. Avoid metallic tints. Tell them your dilemna and specifically request non-metallic tint.

2. If you have a strip installed across the front windshield, make sure your mount your detector so that its view is below this strip.

Good luck!

My tint is slightly or you can say pretty metallic. :(

Heres a pic of it:

This is gonna be a hard decision... Should I still get the V1 or not.

My windows are tinted with metallic tint. I have used the V1 in both of my cars (one with tint the other without) and the performance has been about the same.

Here are the details on my tint:

How many radar traps could there be?

Hey bimmee -

How much are you guys at risk of radar traps in Hawaii? I wouldn't think there could be that many. With traffic on Ohau, I didn't see that many places to really open it up. :dunno:

Thats a good point. I would say not as much as on the mainland. But something you might not know is our speed limit is ridiculously low(50 on the freeway), well, imo. From time to time I do see cops here and there shooting their guns.

I still recall those four speeding tickets I got within one year, and oh, I still have one pending...

Four in one year and one pending? bimmee, you sound like you have that 'land locked' condition and need to come do some mileage on the mainland :D

Just a quick comment about metallic tint. I have been told by numerous tint shops that when you tint your windows, you shouldn't install anything but metallic due to the fact that the non-metallic kind fades over time and eventually looks like crap. I think the measurable difference between having metallic vs. non-metallic would be trivial...

:bawling: Yup, HPD still loves to shoot radar, especially on side streets, I think they give you more slack on H-1 to keep traffic moving, one Saturday there was a cop at the bottom of my street with a radar gun luckily I was behind a slow poke.

Yup, you must behave at the end of every month when these cops are working hard to make their quota.

So Vexed, got one of those installed? Why and why not?

I don't, I thought about it when the talivans were out but much of my freeway driving is at night when they usually are not shooting radar, you can really fly early in the morning:thumbup:
