Hey guys, first, I did run a search for this topic but the posts are mostly for the 3er and 5er.

I am wondering if any of you guys had hard wired a Valentine One in your 7er and if you placed it behind the rear view mirror or on the dash board.

Thanks,

My V1 is mounted just below the rear view mirror and I ran the wire to one of the rear Cig lighters in the console

Thanks guys. I think I will put it behind the reaview mirror and have it hard wired to the the overhead console to avoid the dangling cords. A local car stereo shop quoted me $80 for the job.

i use my passport on the lower dash cutout... i never knew there was one there until recently... my brothers car was in front of me with his brakes on, and i saw little metallic fragments in the window... i moved my passport to that location, and the range jumped way up, similar range to my previous cars without the metallic windshield... it'd be pretty easy to hardwire it to that location too...,

Hi harjothundal, do you mind posting a picture of the lower dash cutout. I am not sure if I know where you were talking about.

Thanks much!

the weather is bad plus im down with the flu, so i may not be able to get to it today, plus it'd be pretty hard getting it in a picture... but this is how i found it... i was cleaning my windshield... my brother was in front of me in the driveway with his brake lights on... i had my head in line with the idrive screen, sitting at a slant at about where the idrive knob is (i was leaning to clean the windshield, to give you an idea of how i found it) ... i looked on the window and i saw very small lines running downwards... i followed it with my eyes and it was a triangle shaped cutout... it is at the very bottom of the window, and its right inbetween the instrument cluster and idrive display cluster in terms of location...

Don't bother with the pictures since you are sick. I will take a look tomorrow. Thanks anyway.

I just dug out the manual, on page 122, under Entry/pass tags, it says "infrared windshield technology has been used on your vehicle to minimize solar heating of the vehicle interior. This technology also reduces the ability of electronic devices to transmit and receive through the windshild, which will impair their performance and operating range.

If you want tp place an electronic toll collection device or entry/pass tags behind the windshield, please use the area marked in the illustration (the clear area behind the rearview mirror). This area is clearly visible from inside the vehicle."

I saw that trapezoid area between the two humps now. I will try to put the V1 there to see how it works first. Thanks again.

Hi harjothundal, I got my new V1. There is no room near rear view mirror where I can put the V1 horizontally. I am putting it on the dash board between the two humps so it looks through the trapezoid area. I like to hard wire it to the fuse box inside the glove compartment (using a Add-A-Circuit). The wire runs along the bottom of the windshield, along where the dashboard meets the A pillar, then down to the glove compartment.

I have one problem, in where the dashboard meets the A-pillar, I couldn't push the cord down enough to hide it because there are metal hooks that lock the dashboard to the A-pillar, they are in the way. So right now the the cord is sort of exposed in that section and it also creates a small gap between the dashboard and the A-pillar.

How did you deal with that problem?

Thanks!

Could you please give the measurements to find the trapezoid? i.e. 14" from A-pillar 4"from dashboard... Thanks!!

It's right between the two humps. The plaxy glass block is 1" tall, with the plaxy glass block and the velcro, the top of the V1 is very close to the top of the trapezoid.

To find the trapezoid, park your car facing the sun, maybe around 10:00 am or 4:00pm, so the sun light can shine in from an angle, get in the car, carefully look at that area, it isn't that hard to find it. It has some fine lines in it.

Guys take your forearm and put it in between the hump, then push your fist forward until you hit the windshield and you will see the area. Place your radar there.

Here's where I put mine (yeah I know it's not a V1, it's a Belltronics). It's hard wired although it can be removed. Power comes from the overhead console.
