It sure is. My soul left with what remained of the car when it was carted away by the flat bed.

The problem arose 2.5 years ago in the form of an electrical gremlin that showed up and never left. Kept popping DMEs and after the 3rd DME, it started to get expensive real quick trying to guess what was causing it. Because it was the DME, it was literally undriveable. The tail lights started coming on and staying on as well while the car was off. Clearly it was grounding somewhere but where was the mystery. Electrical problems are the worst. I rarely hear of success stories where an electrical problem was conquered and resolved. It didn't help that M5Jed (few of the remaining experts on these cars) was a one man shop and continued to be inundated with similar older BMWs being brought in from across the country. Given his expertise on these cars, if he couldn't fix it no one could. In the end, we had to make a decision, indefinitely let it sit some more and keep toiling at the problem or pull the plug. Clearly it ended up being the latter. That was due in part to me being too old now to be chasing after an answer that was not presenting itself anytime soon. This was definitely one of those things that was keeping me up at night. It took me a while to come to terms with the decision, which was very difficult to make.

Not going to lie, I'm still very salty with how this devolved into. Especially when I sift through the expensive parts I invested in and now letting go and selling.

You couldn't replace the DME ?

 

Replaced it 3x and same result. Something was causing it to fry everytime the ignition was turned to on.

 

man that woulda been one nice project as it if it was priced well.
