No idea what it's going to be, but it looks like a very early prototype of the announced Van

I've read about those things before--- I think they're used for early suspension tuning, right?
Yes, it's for suspension tuning. A few days ago, there was a short documentary about the new 6 Series development. The prototypes they used for suspension tuning was very similar to those in the photo above.

We better hope that the US Army does not see that.

They would order 500,000 units, and pay $750,000 for each, plus spares.

The mishmash of stuff is interesting. E65 lights, odd super-low-profile tires, and Japanese taxicab fender mirrors.

Probably suspension testing and/ or chassis testing for the new X5 or that V5 people carrier that may or may not be released.

That thing looks nasty. No way in hell I'd ever buy (insert model/E-code) based on that picture.

Based on the tires and exhaust size, I'd say its a suspension/drivetrain mule for a high performance model. It reminds me of the modified Ford F-250HD pickups that were used for engine testing on the Ford GT. Now that's a truck I want.
