I don't know if it was a rock, or a chunk of metal, but either way, it made a big crashing sound on my windshield. Coming home from work today I got nailed on the freeway going about 70 mph. It could have been worse I suppose. The object was roughly the size of a racquet ball.

Off to the dealer in the morning to get a new windshield. Wonder what kind of loaner I'm gonna get? :eeps:

G'nite!

same thing happened to me a few weeks ago but my window didn't even get cracked. a big rock that looked like it would fill the palm of a hand bounced off of the road and skimmed my window in exactly the same spot but it was spinning and just bounced over the car. I though sure it was going to come through. it just a small and barely noticible mark. that was my lucky day. I paid twice for it today though when I grazed a curb with my two right wheels.

This reminds me of a drive to work a few years ago in a non-bimmer:
I was minding my own business on an overpass. By the way, does anyone else have a problem with bridges? Bridges scare the ever lovin cah-rap outa me. Hey, it's my neurosis, I can't explain it. (Really I can, I just dont have the space.) Anyway, I'm drivin' to work ab 6:45AM and this 3 ton truck swerves left into my lane and then back into his own about two car lengths ahead of me.
As I am inclined to do anyway, because of my bridge fear, I am busy figuring out how far it is to the railroad below and wondering if I would live when BAM! Out of the corner of my eye this hah-YUGE thing comes flyin' towards my windshield. As it closes in, I recognize it as a four foot long 2x4 that was picked up by the truck and slung in my direction!
I duck in that knee-jerk reaction we all share when we're about to take one in the brain and wait for the bright light of death to come along. As it turns out, the 2x4 slams into the top of my car, shattering the sunroof visor just inches away from the windshield.
I promptly wet my pants and pulled over to the side to catch my breath. Unfortunately, I was in a rough part of town, so there were more than a few offers to work out my frustrations for money or crack. I declined and got to work early with a great story to tell.

Well, as it turns out I just wasn't up for getting out of bed early this morning. If I had I would have been at the dealer early enough to get my pick of the lot, but the guy ahead of me got the last car available - a Z3. They did provide me with a rental from Enterprise, but I guess they're busy, too, and could only provide me with the leftovers. I guess I'll be styling in a Ford Escort for the next day or so. :thumbdwn:

By the way, my insurance is covering the windshield, but the dealer quoted a price of $825 installed. Sounds a bit high considering I don't have the rain sensor. What do you guys think?
