The other day i went on a 150 miles trip and i reset my gas mileage computer.
It was showing that i was getting 35mpg for the duration of the trip. At some point it went up to 38 MPG.
anyway, i was averaging about 35MPG for the whole trip. i was going 70mph on 6th gear (low rpm) and perfect weather conditions (75F)

Is this accurate or the computer is tripping?

I have a 535xi and the computer says I average around 18 MPG around town. I reset the trip computer today for a 240 mile roundtrip and the average was 27.

If you are getting 35 you are drive downhill the entire time.

If that's reading 35 Imperial Gallons per mile, then it would translate to 29.2 MPG.

this is the first time i have seen the gas mileage this high. during the previous similar trips in the past it was always maxing out at 30MPG which is accurate. but i 've never seen it this high.

5xwen,
if one leg of the trip was downhill then on the way back i would be driving uphill :)

In my 545i I get about 20 to 22 on avg. mostly city. If I'm a little harder on it about 18 MPG. All HWY I get a solid 25 and usually more like 27 to 28.

I drove to Vegas a few weeks ago, and was getting an average of 32 mpg. and that on a 535i. Better than I ever expected, especially with average speeds of 85 mph.

I remember my 530i auto 2006 once had 35mpg for 125 miles with speeds 55-65 mph. So its possible with a very soft foot.

my mpg computer is accurate. in normal driving , mixed with some heavy foot driving we get 18-19. I tried a few days to baby it and not race and got 22 to 24 mpg in mixed driving, hilly area.

I consider myself to be a very efficient driver - always looking ahead for the next stop light and using the brakes as little as possible and I only average 22 mpg (probably around a 50/50 mix of city/hwy).

I took a 500 mile round trip....

mostly around 75-80 mph and averaged 27.8 mpg in my 2008 535i.
More like 16 mpg for my day to day driving.

I get an average of 25 mpg during the week for my commute ( 35 miles each way). This includes a cold start, some 80 mph, some stop-and-go on the interstate, two or three blasts of extreme acceleration, as well as some moderate speeds on country and state highways ( 40 to 60 mph). With a warm engine and moderate outside temp. (55 to 75 degF) and cruising at 65 mph, I can get up to 30mpg on the interstate.

My average when just driving to from work and around town is 23.5 mpg. When on the interstate (I just drove it this morning), I typically get 29 mpg. The interesting thing is this is almost identical numbers to what I got with my 04 330i (with performance pkg).

In my daily commute I get between 25-27 MPG. My one-way commute from Tolleson, AZ to Mesa, AZ is a shade under 45 miles. Of that about 10 of it is stop-and-go traffic, the rest is uncongested highway so I keep it pretty close to 80. When the wife and I hop in to "just drive around" I get a lot closer to 30 MPG, even with a rather long stretch of climbing to get out of the Phoenix Valley.

With a heavy foot, mostly ~5 mile stop and go trips, from a cold engine, California gas, AC on almost all the time, the computer says I get 21.3MPG. There is one 300 mile round trip in the 1700 miles it's been calculated from, and that was with a heavy foot and a full load. 2008 528i.

Our 2005 Scion xA, which weights about 1000lbs less, gets about 29.5mpg, though it is driven more slowly due to less power and a rough ride. My wife drives insanely fast when she gets in the BMW since 90 in a Bimmer feels like 55 in a Scion.

With a 2006 530I on a 1800 mile trip; west to east 34.5 MPG, east to west 30.5MPG, all on I15,I80 and I70 averaging 68.5 mph.

I think this has been addressed in previous threads, but I think the MPG reported by the onboard computer tends to be higher than the actual MPG. I have a 2008 535i, and my onboard computer says my MPG is averaging 24.2 (about 50/50 mix of highway and city driving), but when I actually do the calculations myself when I fill up my tank, it's more like 22-23 MPG.
