Nothing a pair of vice grips that would handle it

Sent from my SM-J727T using Tapatalk
I realized something was wrong when I wasn't able to tighten the bolt, but it came out ok.

There are a few damaged threads but it will thread back in, just can't really tighten it.

I'm assuming that the vice grip suggestion would be to remove the bolt?

Was going to replace the fuel filter (in tank) and one i removed the lock ring on the fuel pump the thing wouldn't come out easily. I decided not to proceed any further as I wasn't feeling it and was worried of just causing more damage then anything.

Also, wanted to centre my steering wheel. The cars alignment is fine, tracks perfectly straight and the tires are wearing evenly however my steering wheel is like 10-15degrees to the right when going straight. Looked down below to break the lock nut free on the tie rod ends to adjust but always just had a bad feeling.

Anyone else done either of these two things that can provide some suggestions and comments?

Yeah jeepo23 here's what I got , it appears several of us are working in this same area at various success levels....
my success level hasn't been the best (you'll read it) but I now think I know the problem. But I'm now off to Vegas. I've also order the rubber seal ring: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/113800839188

Replaced the windshield cowel cover because the seal was cracked and most had broken off. Replaced the cabin air filter while before putting the new one on due to easy access, and cleaned up the filter housing. Easy job, everything clicks into place with clips. Most difficult part was removing the wiper arms which just takes patience and elbow grease.

Haha, they probably wouldn’t need to. But this particular BMW was originally sold at BMW Maui and was on the island until finding it’s way to me recently. Lots of rain there, and lots of sun too, hence the cracked windshield cowel. But you’ve got a point, maybe I should have left them off lol.

Couple of questions,

Do your guys moonroofs on open go back just in front of the upper glass and then if you pull the button back again it goes completely under the upper glass? I never noticed this feature till yesterday lol.. is this normal?

For you oil changes, you gents do it with the vehicle flat on surface or do you actually raise the front on ramps/jacks? Is more oil drained one way vs another during a change?

Yes to the sunroof question.

Level surface to the oil change question (or level on 4 ramps.). With how the drain plug is situated, I don’t think anything is to be gained from tilting the vehicle; rather, tilting will keep oil in the pan. The oil cooler holds a half quart anyway, so it’s chasing pennies but leaving the pound. I’ll raise the front of my Jetta because that will actually hasten oil draining but more importantly give me clearance to get under it, but clearance isn’t an issue on the X3.

Cheers duke, been doing it on level ground too since the access under the X3 is a no issue. Just was curious. Rock on!

Rescue Red (BMW X3 2006 3.0 M54 200K) has recently started to "creek" in the front suspension area...as a temporary means of addressing the sounds...I took a can of WD 40 and shot around various suspension contact areas today

moonroof, yes. Basically, if the sunroof module has no codes, it's working normally. There's a video on youtube that demonstrates all the features, but can't find it at the moment XD

Looks like you opted to remove your cup holder for the idrive knob.

How do you like it?
I like it a lot...feels like a very modern vehicle now :)
