I have a 2001 z-3 with an automatic transmission: 5 speed Steptronic. Haven't had a chance to drive it much because I'm out of the country and the car is stored. Anyway, the trany has an M/S position. I understand the Manual position, but what exactly is the S for Sport position? The owner's manual is pretty foggy on the subject. In the S position does it wind out more before shifting than in the normal auto position? Incidentally, this is the first auto ytany I have owned. My first car was an MGTD bought in the middle of the last century. But I'm getting old.

Yes it holds each gear a little longer and will also (at least my 325 did this) hold a lower gear going down a hill while you are off the throttle.
