There is a difference in gearing and rear end that make up the difference.
The US car has a low differential, and lower gearing to help it fly off the line. The Euro car using taller gearing and more horsepower and torque flies at high speeds.
IMHO, the Euro car is better over there, and the US car is much better hear. I know, I know, who wouldn't kill for an E36 with 300 hp...
...But in fact, the US car (with it's gearing) is much better for 95% of the driving we do here.
