I would like to get an idea of how you guys feel about upsizing. Some say upsizing gives better handling, while other say the compromise on ride is too much.

Assume you have a 330 with SP, please pick what you like most:
  • 17" M68 (7.5x7, 8.5x17)
  • 18" MV72 (8x18, 8.5x18)
Thanks in advance.

I'd go with the M68s. The 18" wheels are bound to be heavier and look like they'd be even more fun to clean than my 73s.

18 and up is a cosmetic mod. No performance gain. If you wanna be different, go aftermarket. You can always sell the M68's.

IMHO

And IMO it's not a cosmetic gain! The M68's are beautiful albeit common.

I agree. Fortunately in my neck of the woods the SP isn't too common, so I'm still pretty unique. :)

My choice should be fairly evident. The M72's look harder to clean than they actually are. I spend maybe 2-3 minutes on each wheel with cleaner and a brush, then another couple of minutes each wheel wiping it down again with a clean towel. No big deal. I happen to like the way they look and I have only seen one other car in the area with these wheels. 68's and 44's are very common. If I were concerned about wheel weight above anything else, I'd be running something in a forged wheel (SSR or BBS most likely).

18s are fine (I have 18s) but they're never 'necessary' and the M-Vspokes are ugh-lee.

I like the M68s. Car and Driver did a test of the "plus" concept of tire and wheel sizing on a 540i a few years ago - they tested 15, 16, 17 & 18" wheels. The test results indicated measurable improvements in handling, steering response, cornering and braking up to the 17s. The 18s did not post performance numbers as good as the 17s.
