What years did BMW own Rover

A friend of mine is looking at used LR Discoveries, and I was wondering what years BMW was in charge and sharing parts with Rover. The discovery had the BMW (sourced) 5sp auto for a while did it also use a version of the V8 from the 5 series?

Get the Series II Discovery, that is the one BMW finished off. The series I was pretty awful :thumbdwn:

Thanks, that's what I told him too. Stick with 1997-2000 models.
