I simply did a /maf in the bestlinks to find this:
- Mass air flow sensor (MAF) & idle control valve (ICV) require periodic cleaning (1) (2) & buying a replacement MAF cheaper than the BMW MAF (RangeRover MAF) (VW MAF) (Hyundai MAF) & cleaning the throttle body (1)

I have read a considerable amount of information about use of the VW MAF. It is my opinion, based on that research (mostly from reading threads on the M5 boards) that it is best to use the factory oem Bosch MAF only. Several users of the VW MAF found differences in the read out of liter/minute flow of the VW MAF versus oem. Obviously the VW MAF works, but it is not optimal. If you are comparing a worn or malfunctioning oem MAF to a new VW MAF, the VW appears to work fine....but it will run better with the proper oem MAF.

If you want the absolute best price on the later style oem Bosch MAF, find the seller "germanautosupply" on Ebay. He sells the factory oem Bosch part with free shipping for $165.
I don't see him listing them right now, and oh, I see our sponsor has them for $170 with shipping on ebay! Find "eactuning". ;)

Yup you can buy one from our Ebay store as mentioned above. If you are not an ebay user you may also order it directly from our site.

This is a brand new Bosch part specified for any 540i built after 9/1998. Do it once, do it right and save the guesswork on whether or not your MAF is performing optimally.
