You spend the money you saved while the M3 was under warranty that you would have spent on the 996.

If you comapre older generation M3 to comparable year 911s, the 911s are always more expensive to maintain.

OP, what's with starting all of the random threads throughout b'fest comparing maintenance costs of ______ [insert random BMW model here] with _____ [insert random Porsche model here]? You have that much time on your hands and thought you'd waste everyone else's too?

The Porsche line of cars are very reliable especially the 997+ series and they rarely breakdown unlike the M3's.
Wow, I must have been really lucky with both my M3's :yikes::yikes::yikes: Wish I woulda thought to buy some lottery tickets

I have an 01 C4 996 and it has been a great car. I think you will pay more for routine stuff over the first four years. The 996 can be very expensive to repair if something breaks. I would go with the M3 if cost is an issue. . .

The M3 is easier to maintain.
