You must have power seats to get the tilt-down-in-reverse mirror, as the tilt function is part of the seat memory system.

Shouldn't matter if you have sport or normal, lumbar or non-lumbar, as long as you have power seats.

See the thread on Yipper's delivery. He seems to have a manual tranny with power seats, and he commented on how much he liked the tilt-down side mirrors.

I don't know the definitive answer to the question, but I guess you don't need an automatic tranny...

Definatly NOT tied to transmission:D Kaz is right you must have memory seats, and mirror adjustment button must be set to the right side mirror, with the button set to the left this feature is turned off.

I have it on my 5-speed

I'm really confused here. Have all of the E46's had the tilting side-view mirrors? Or did they only come with certain options?

Anyone who can answer that confidently, please do tell.
All production AFTER 9/99 with powerseats will have it.

Gotcha.

The more I learn about the changes throughout the E46's life the more I realize that I got the best combination of features:
  • Heavy steering
  • Mechanical throttle
  • More in-depth service interval system
  • New-style keys
  • There's more but I can't recall right now
My car is a 3/2000 build, by the way.

I believe that this is right....

I don't remember my 7/99 328Ci having it, but my current 10/99 model does

The first one didn't have PP though :dunno:

You have it backwards. If you have the switch in the right position then the tilt function is deactivated. And with the switch in left position you activate the tilt function. Try it out for you self. But I do agree with you on the fact that its not tied to the transmission.

My car is built on 8/24/1999 and do NOT have it, unfortunately. Took me and my dealer a whole day to find it out, because they can hardly remember having seen a car with seat memory but without tilt down mirror.
