Today, when tunring on my A/C, the first few seconds I heard this whining noise. The A/c works and the whine quickly goes away but it's still a bit noisy while it's on, it's not silent. What could this be? it's a 2011 e90.

Say "sweetheart I'm a little hot ...... just let me have a little AC for a few minutes!"

Could be moisture on the belt perhaps.

haha

Seriously. Anybody have this issue? I figure if it's making noise then it's low on refrigerant, which means it has a leak. I'm hoping it's not the evaporator leaking. It's only three years old, what else would be making it leak?

Mine whines constantly, more like a drone than a whine, but it's done it for years and still works.

Yeah, that's what mine is when i'm driving. I can hear a constant drone unless I turn the compressor off.

I figured it was my compressor going but it's been doing this for like 5 years. :D

Both of these sound strange to me (no pun intended).

I have no clue my AC is on, or off unless I look at the light or smell/feel it's working. No drone, no noise nothing at all. Variable AC makes for very smooth operation until previous cars I have had where the AC cycles on and off constantly.

My AC was silent for the first few years. It's also silent if I use it in winter, to defog the windows - maybe cause there's little load on the compressor?

Would this be covered under warranty? I am curious because I just had my car certified and bought it back off lease.

Your AC might not be running in Winter if it's below freezing. Warm air (no AC) will still defrost windows... especially in Winter.

The noise is possibly the bearings of the blower motor. Mine "whistled" while in use. Fairly common failure on these cars and not too bad for a repair ($$$). Good luck.

It's only when the compressor is one. I'm under new car warranty anyway.
