Over the past few months, a a high pitched whining noise is coming from my transmission. This is a 2000 528iT with 176000 miles on it. Never had transmission oil changed. Any thoughts ?

Over the past few months, a a high pitched whining noise is coming from my transmission. This is a 2000 528iT with 176000 miles on it. Never had transmission oil changed. Any thoughts ?

I need to add that this is a manual transmission.

while driving or sitting still? if still, clutch in or out? any specific gear?

While driving, especially in 1st and 2nd gear. Clutch out.
