Hi Guys,

The driver window auto down function stopped working.

I can lower it by holding the button only.

The other 3 still work and the auto up STILL works fine.

What is the deal here?!

Is it the switch or .....??

It worked last week, I just noticed this today.

Thanks for your help.

I had that problem with just the up part while the down part worked. Completely lower the window and holding for an extra couple of seconds and then completely closing the window and holding for an extra couple of seconds seemed to retrain it...

thanks again, but sadly it did not work.
I got some input from e46fanatics.com that the switch has a magnet that gets messed up and can be fixed with crazy glue.

I was driving when I tried to put the window down, door was closed.
I thought your crytal ball was working better;)

New question because I got this info from e46fanatics:

"IT'S ACTUALLY THE SWITCH...IT HAS SOME MAGNETS...ATTACHED TO A RUBBER..THE RUBBER GET WORN OUT AND BRAKES...NOT ALLOWING THE MAGNET TO HOLD ITS POSITION TO LET THE WINDOW GO DOWN...THATS WHY WHEN YOU HOLD IT...ITS DOES WORK CAUSE THE MAGNET IS BEING HELD BY YOU...NOT THE RUBBER PIECE THAT SHOULD HOLD IT....
HERES HOW TO FIX IT.....

1:TAKE THE SWITCH OUT...(INSIDE THE SWITCH YOULL SEE THE RUBBER AND THE MAGNETS THAT ALLOW THE WINDOW TO GO UP OR DOWN)

2:GET SOME CRAZY GLUE AND FIX THE BROKEN RUBBER HOLDING THE SMALL MAGNET....

3:pUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND YOUR DONE....

ONCE YOU PULL THE SWITCH OUT AND TAKE IT APART YOULL SEE EXACTLY WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT...ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE...VERY EASY TO DO."

sounds like good info, BUT

does someone have a how to for removing the plastic trim around the shifter and window switches?
I don't want to break anything, I assume there is a proper method of removal.

If someone has the details, PLEASE advise!

UPDATE:
All is now working.

The fix was as simple as a cleaning of the switch.
Remove shifter boot
Remove 2 screws
Lift off plastic trim
Unplug and pop out switch
Pry open
Remove plastic piece and remove rubber piece
Clean contacts
Reinstall
