I posted this message in e46 sections, but got no replies, looks like there is no easy fix. Below is a re-posting of the original question in the general section, hopefully somebody had this problem and knows the solution. Here you go.
Does anybody have an experience with replacing e46 defroster stepper motor? I would appreciate any advice, instructions and/or pictures if available. My defroster stopped working few month ago i.e. it produces a lot of noise but no air comes out of windshield vents. All other AC and heater functions work fine. I suspect that the problem is due to failed defroster stepper motor(actuator, as it called in BMW parts list).
Any info is appreciated.
