I guess you are another causualty of the wonderful ZF trans. Don't let people tell you that it will cost you $3000-$4000 for a new tranny. You can buy a good used one from a place here in Alabama called Vines Automotive (they are on ebay) for around $1200. Then have someone install it for you. I guess you could find someone to rebuild the one you have, but search around before committing. I hate it when good people get taken advantage of on "major" repairs.

701EV. I don't think you have the dreaded ZF no reverse problem.
Since your car is a 2000 328 model, it has the GM transmission. Get
the fluid level checked and see if it's low on fluid. If it was the ZF
no reverse problem, it just lets go (band breakage), not intermittent
like your having. It might be a stuck valve body (dirty fluid) or a
pressure flow problem. I would also look into changing the fluid.

If it comes and goes, Id try a fluid and filter change. NOT A FLUSH.

Its worth a shot at least.
