I test drove a Touareg diesel but have not been able to test the x5 diesel. Drove a 3.5i & a 328 diesel. I expect that the VW is slower because of lower HP rating but seems like a nice alternative. Also concerned about resale value on the VW.
+1, although there are options for the VW to increase HP. Rereading the OP he seemed to be concerned with the gassers. I suspect that the turbo X5 would be much faster than the vr6 T-egg. The T-egg TDi would also be slower than the X5d. The bringing in of the very potent VW 4.0 diesel is also on the horizon which would lower even further the current
T-egg resale I think. The T-egg has never been fast, but first couple of years VW offered a V10 diesel that ran right up there with the Cayenne S -- needless to say we can't get those anymore.
