Just completed the spring fix with zip ties to the body as mentioned above. Error code went away on the next day of driving. I did remove the aluminum bar to gain more access (4 bolts and some clips). Dealer wanted $2,400 to replace EGR Cooler!!!! $7 spring fixed it for now.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this issue.

Broken Spring..

I also have a broken spring on my EGR cooler valve. I believe i fix it and it only cost me less than 10 dollars. Not the most professional fix but I am sure this will hold well till the EGR cooler goes totally busted. I purchased a spring from home depot( kit of 4 springs but only 2 are about the right size)

Of the 4-1/2" sprink cut about 20 coils and bend the last coiled at the cut. Drill a small hole (1/8') in the plastic fan housing then attached the 2 end of the spring as in the pictures attached.

I also added a piece of hose over the vacuum hose to avoid direct rubbing against the spring.

How will you describe the correct position of the spring when we start the vehicle? Spring should be stretched or relaxed first? I don't have much knowledge about how it functions and when it opens or closes. I got an x5 35d someone already attached a spring there but it seems too relaxed just hanging there. Vehicle got egr code and sometimes power loss on hilly road. Thanks
