X5 Tow Hitch Coding Question

I just installed BMW tow hitch wiring harness on my 2011 X5 35d. I did the coding myself. After coding, the backup camera trailer zoom works fine. Because I don't have a real trailer now, I plugged in Curt circuit tester like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EOWQY4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When I shift into reverse, rear PDC is not disabled, but somebody says the led lights in the circuit tester cannot fool X5 that a trailer has been connected. So I am ok with that.

Left turn, right turn, backup, taillight all work fine. If I depress brake pedal, brake light is NOT on, but both left turn and right turn lights are on. Is this right?

Thanks, Blue Dragon!
That did it - I added AHMU in VO for CAS and FRM, processed car, and then opened AHMU to see that it was in US, and it was, and the brake lights light up now! Awesome!

While I was at it, I added digital speed readout in KMBI, comfort closing with remote, and as soon as I see where it is, I'll add the removal of the lawyers 'accept' statement on the NAV, plus fold those mirrors when locked! Quite the confidence booster when it works!

Maybe you guys can help! I installed a curt hitch and curt flat 4 wire harness into my 2012 x5 diesel. I have no running lights. I bought an adsptor that allows the 4 pin on the truck to turn into a round 7 pin( etrailer.com). When I installed it and stepped onto the brakes I blew the curt wire harness fuse. Did some research and they state on etrailer that I may have to ground s red and white wire depending on the trailer. Did that and still no running lights and now no brake lights.

Before I did all this I bought the 7 pin plug with the test lights and the light for the running lights does not come on. Any help please!

How did you hook up the curt harness to the car's electrical system? Did you cut and splice the brake light harness to add your curt harness?

You have to use the OE BMW harness which comes with the AHM module, and code the car.

Hi All!
It took me a while but I got progress to report on my coding adventure...it CAN be done!
Wicked...with help from Blue Dragon, Sheridan, and others plus guides here online, I have been able to make some coding changes to my 2013 X5 35i...not so easy as I ended up removing ALL previous software installs and starting from scratch! Did a "clean" install of software, imported my latest E70 daten files from online helpers/sponsors and voila! She works!

Now...coding the trailer brake module...a little more indepth, a bit more unnerving, but I'm sure I can find the process online here somewhere. There is so much info from all you guys it actually gets a bit overwhelming at times and actually deciphering it all out is tedious. Wishing I could find an actual step by step as I am still not the bravest on coding these beasts!

And BTW: once again I am so impressed with the wealth of knowledge on here and the other forums... MUCH appreciated!

Has anyone come across a list of what can/not be changed via coding? I read somewhere that turn signals was possible in HUD and I also saw LANE_ASSIST settings...
If I have the corner nose cameras and mirror cameras, is this a possibility to have Lane Assist?

BTW: it appears that if you do the Vehicle In Motion change to watch videos, you can then also read your email/txt msg
Tks all...appreciate all the info available here

Soo... just getting back to this little project once again! I have added the +AHU to VO and it is showing as US when I read it back but I still don't have brake lights...
Guess I will try again when the sun comes back up...
:dunno:
Are you sure if the system already recognized your AHU module?, engange reverse gear you should have your proximity sensors off if its ok, Where are you checking your brake lights, in the trailer? in the connector?

2013 X5 trailer hitch coding

So just got a 2013 X5 to replace my 2011 X5 that hit a deer and was totaled. I really wanted the backup camera in this one to back up to trailers but now it looks like I need to add and code the factory trailer wiring. I just used an adapter on the 2011 that sensed the wires but added no load and powered the trailer lights from the battery.
So I think I have bmw tools already loaded on my laptop but I never got the right daten files to make it work on the 2011. Starts up I get two black dots but can't go any further.
I have the hitch that was just delivered out in the garage and waiting for a warmer day to install. Shopping for a bmw harness.
Crusin_newfie, I would appreciate any advise you can give seeing as how you just did this.
Thanks in advance
Bill

The install is pretty simple. You can find step by step instructions and pictures easy enough. The coding is a little more complicated, but not too bad. You need ncs expert to be up and running. You first need to change the vehicle order, then need to code individual modules. Before attempting this, do a lot of reading and try to code other things first and get comfortable.
