That's because I decided to pay $150 for a rental rather than put 2500 miles on the bimmer. Got a Corolla.

NOT a fun car at elevation. I'd have to take it out of overdrive to maintain 75mph on even the slightest grades (like interstate overpasses and such).

We took the 530i there...such a sweet car to take on vacations...you missed out! For me, driving a nice comfortable/powerful car on drivng vacations is half the fun! :)

Can you say: "32 mpg on I-80 in Wyoming with cc at 80 mph!?" :wow:

20D... most pics were with the Canon 17-40L or 70-200L 2.8IS :).

Thanks!

I must admit, having the bimmer on most of the trip would have been great. However, I tackled several muddy dirt roads that I never would have attempted in a vehicle I owned :).

I saw as high as 37mpg in the Corolla.

But that's part of the fun:

20 Mule Team Canyon, Death Valley:

Moore cutoff (un-maintained road, Utah):

These were both on the way out to Bimmerfest '04.

Cool.

Although...

1) Your xi rides higher than my ZHP
2) it was raining heavily and very muddy. :)

I wonder what the actual difference in ground clearance is. Parts of Utah I drove through (off the highways) had snow on the ground. Snow on that loose sand = not fun.
