Yes, a 330 can light 'em up.

I'm not a racer, and have no desire to have "kill stories" to tell.

But just for shits and giggles, I decided to see if my 330 could in fact spin 'em from a launch.

Turned off the DSC, revved up to about 3200, and quickly let the clutch out... didn't even "pop" it, or sidestep it... and the rears instantly broke free and screamed.

I only let it go for about a second and a half, but my question was answered. I've never had a RWD car even capable of chirping 'em before.

Granted, I have Contis, but still.

I like having power. :thumb:

I can do this with my 325ci with the DSC turned fully off, with Michelin Pilots.
Same here with a 325tds (yes, diesel) ;)
This car hasen't got DSC, so that's no prob.

I can do it with my 318tds !
Making your tires spin is not so special...the trick is just not to spin your tires :))
2nd gear rubber here with DSC and AST off..been awhile but I think it was 6000 rpm and about 35-40mph when I hit 2nd and got a "Chirp"...try that Mr.318 ;) (j/k)

Sure about that? Well, think about all the microorganisms you killed by pulling that stunt... :)

Say, in your title block, your location is some wierd code of some sort. Is that morse code?

mmm..i also can get the "Chirp" in 2nd... but a very small one :))
The 318 is doing it's last miles.. my new baby should arrive end June... The 318 is a very loyal car... is not fast (certainly not) but it stick to the road... If the 325i and other "i"'s werent so damn expencive...(dream dream) ...

With the money i spend here (belgium) on a full option 320d
i could get a 330Ci in the USA, if it wasn't for the daim taxes etc..
I've calculated that 32% of the total car value goes to the goverment....!! => sucks ass

I have two uncles who drive Bentley's in Hong Kong. :dunno: 120% car tax last I checked... I don't know how they do it.
Thanks to our open differentials, it is a piece of cake...

I have a pic from auto-x where my inside tire is billowing smoke while launching :thumbdwn:

Yeah, baby! I kicked those paramecium right in the endoplasmic reticulum! That'll learn 'em!

Yup, it's morse.
I think you meant...can light ONE up.

Stupid open diff is just spinning one tire furiously. Other tire is just sitting there doing nothing.

It sounded like two, and I didn't notice any pulling in one direction of the other... but I didn't check the marks on the pavement afterward.

If the car is pointed straight forward, even w/out an LSD, why would one wheel have any more resistance than the other?

I'll respond for him:

It's morse code, for 'LA, CA'
Hell Yah!!!!!

These cars will light 'em up without a problem and are more than capable of "chirping" second!!!

Rip - you're right...the best place to chirp second is shifting hard at 5800-6100 rpms - right in the peak power area. Any higher or lower and power drops off and reduces "chirpability".......ummm....from what I've heard anyway;)

As far as the open diff. - yes, both tires can/will spin. As long as both have equal traction, power goes to both wheels. Again.....from what I've heard:angel:
330xi

All those with 330xi out there:

is there any way to really spin the tires since ASC+T (or whatever it is when you hold the DSC button for 5 seconds) cannot be turned off?

i can chirp em but never have them spin.
I once scared myself back in January on a hard launch. I had the Pirelli Snowsports on, and I took off with a slight chirp, but then on the 1-2 shift (about 5k RPM) I literally SPUN the tires for about 15 ft.

Oops. :D

Third, too... but I wouldn't want to shift like that every day. I love this car:D

:yikes: Wow. I've had that happen before, but the pavement there was pretty rough so I thought that was the cause.
