I just got a 99 z3 2.3. 138k miles. Auto transmission. I do not have any of the maintenance records for the car.

Should I have the transmission fluid and filter changed or leave it as is?

Transmission seems fine. It does make a clunk sound when I put it into park

Yes. Yes. Yes. The kit from thebmwstore.com was about $90 or so and includes the filter, pan gasket and new bolts. My car had 125000 miles on it and the fluid was NASTY. It is a pain to fill as it must be done from underneath the car. There is no filler in the engine compartment. Next year I will probably just change the fluid to keep trying to get the old stuff out. After spending some time in a transmission shop lately and pulling apart torque converters, I see now how important it is to have clean, fresh fluids in the autos.

Make sure you get the kit for the 4 spd automatic, not the 5 spd.

Clunk sounds is probably the rear diff bushing if it is setup like my e46.

As for fluid changing as mentioned YES!!!!

But you used an evil word in your title of the post FLUSH. Flushing is evil and should never be done.

But the normal fluid change and change the filter is good
