Hi all! I was wondering if it is ok to take the engine into the redline sometimes? I have a 2000 z3 2.3, and while passing uphill, got a liitle carried away for only a few seconds before shifting. It sounded great and ran smoothly. I try not to go into the redline area on the tach. Thanks,

As long as the engine is warmed up...take it to the red line....There is an engine limiter and it will let you know when you get to high an RPM

I don't think there is a trip I make with out getting past 6k.

I agree. Redline only after fully warmed up. I regularly redline both my cars. There is no ill effect. BMW made these engines to be driven hard, not babied.
