I'm new to Z4's - I have a 2004 with the SMG trans. I've read several post discussing the merits of changing out the CDV on the ZF trans for the Zeckhausen one.

Well, I understand the underlying trans for the SMG system is the ZF trans - is there a CDV on the SMG trans? I've looked all around the engine bay and find nothing that relates to a clutch system so am kinda lost.

I'm not real happy with the way the trans shifts from 1-->2, specially low rpm shifts and got to thinking about the CDV and whether I even have one???

Thanks in advance.

Feel free to double check me on this, but I'm going to say 'no the SMG transmission doesn't have a CDV'. The CDV is part of the clutch hydraulic lines. The SMG version has a computer controlled hydraulic clutch control system. The Real OEM diagrams don't show any type of CDV.

The CDV is number 16 in the following diagram:

wildag, thanks for the info. I had crawled through the realoem diagrams and was more confused than before. I thought that *maybe* I didn't have a CDV, but just wasn't sure. I'd even talked with one of the service techs at my local stealer and he didn't know.

So, guess I'll just have to re-learn how to *manually* shift!! :(
