zaino on wheels works great! zaino one week report....

applied zaino to the wheels last week end. the diret that had accumulated since then washed mostly off whith a hose! I washwed the remaining dirt off with a sponge in the left over zaino wash from my the paint.

I remember reading that someone else tried this and wasn't happy with the results. I'd like to suggest that perhaps they used wheel cleaner at some point and that the wheel cleaner cleaned off the zaino. I'll see how good it does over time but if it goes well, I'm going to remove the wheels and do a complete job.

a week after applying zaino for the first time, I washed my car with Z7. the paint fealt much slicker than the medallion did after the first week. applying Z6 made it even slicker. it's as aslick or maybe slicker than what it fealt like last week.

I'm starting to believe the hype but still want to watch it for a while.

What I did

After a couple weeks of admiring my ugly mug in the hood, I applied coat two. Boy did that shine! Then I wondered if you could perfect perfection, so I applied coat #3.

This stuff is like automotive crack.

This is all good to know

I've been wondering how well it would work. I haven't yet tried it myself. When my new car gets here I'm getting new wheels for it. Before they even go on I'm going to Z them front and back!

if you can spare the time and effort, you should take the rims off and put on two coats. since most of us don't have access to a chassis hoist perhaps doing one wheel at a time would work. you could minimize the effort over time by doing one wheel a weekend. when it comes time to do it again, repeat the process.

I may end up doing that myself. even if I had access to a chassis hoist, it would be kind of a pain waxing 4 wheels twice each in one day. too tedious.

I took the easy way out and sprayed on Stoner's Speed Bead. It gets into all the nooks and crannies and takes just a couple seconds to apply. It's carnauba, but it's better than nothing. Of course it takes a long time to get all the wax out of the bolt holes.

Talk about reviving an old threads....but have any Zaino heads here ever used it in wheels. I am contemating it but the deer ship is offering me free tire storage and it would be weird to talk the tires off for winter, bring them home for a week, then return them. Although I'd like to see where BMW will store them. If its uncovered and really dirty I may pass.

Anyway, Zaino on wheels, worth the trouble?

Lol, I actually emailed Sal Zaino concerning the wheels (as I'm a recent Zaino convert) and he specifically stated to NOT use any type of wheel cleaner and perform the same process as on the paint. To date I have only done the paint where I washed with Dawn, clay barred using (water & Zaino wash), 2 bucket Zaino wash, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6. I didn't do Z2 as I wanted less of a "wet" look plus wanted to attain more swirl removal.

I will be doing the wheels (will not remove them though) this weekend after doing above process (minus the Dawn part) again as I need to remove bugs after a road trip. so will post results next week...if I don't get lazy that is!

But how do you get all the accunumlated brake dust off befor applying Zaino? I already have seemingly irremovable build up in the corners where the spoke meets the barrell

Keep in mind I haven't done this yet, however I know clay barring produces ome "miraculous" results. Unless you have actual dings, dents and curb rash I believe doing the dawn wash followed by clay bar will remove just about all the road crud. As long as it is attached to the surface of whatever you are cleaning clay bar has been (in my experience) the answer. Then protect the wheels by the process detailed above.

Did the wheels yesterday! I only took pics of passenger side wheels as those were worse with tar and brake dust grime. They really weren't bad at all but I highly recommend removing them from the vehicle especially if there are tight crevices with hard to reach places. I did not and was not able to get them as clean as I would have liked. Additionally it looks funny to have the outer portion clean and the inner still dirty.

So I washed them then clay barred followed by two coats of Z-5 with Z-6 after both coats. They feel almost as nice as the paint, really looking forward to doing our Audi and hoping that the brake dust buildup will be significantly reduced (on the Audi).

I was able to post existing photos from phone app other day now it's not an option so I'll have to download and post later...
