The 'Screen Toggle' button is the button next to the phone key and above the "5 6" key on the X3 Nav system. It has 2 overlapping rectangles on it.
Thanks. My Screen Toggle button seems to "Toggle" only one way. It changes the screen from Navi Map or Navi Route guidens to the DICE/iPod info screen. This is the same as my CD buttons does. The other way, I have to press the MENU button and select GPS NAVIGATION.

Hi Tom,

I'm debating buy a DICE for my 2004 BMW X3. My car does not have a CD changer or any sort of NAV system (it's a pretty bare-bones set up). Which products will I need in order to fit my car? Thanks and I look forward to purchasing.

Hey all,
Just bought a new MacBook and it came with a free ipod touch. I figured what the hey, its free. I logged on to see if the touch was compatiable with my DICE and it says that it is. I plugged it in to the DICE kit this morning and all it does is play my entire song list in alphabetical order. It wont let me cycle through the ipod and select certain songs or playlists to play, all it says is accessory connected and the screen is locked out.

Is it not possible to cycle through my songs through the ipod touch with DICE?

The touch, new Classic and 3rd Generation nano lock the iPod's Clickwheel when attached to 3rd party devices, this is an iPod-specific issue - not the DICE.

Earlier iPods do not experience this issue. All DICE-specific features are still available. If Clickwheel operation is desired, you can set the DICE module's DIP switches to Simple iPod mode to gain access of the Clickwheel, but will lose text display on the radio when doing so.

Hey, Tom. car BMW 520i 2001 of release TV/Navi, is established by CD a changer on 6 disks; systems DSP are not present. I wish to buy from you an adapter for connection Ipod. What model of an adapter is necessary to me and you can send it to Ukraine? I have sent photos of sockets to you on an e-mail.
Yours faithfully, Jury!

Ipod Classic locked out

I am having the same problem as many others concerning the new Ipod Classics, ipod touch, etc. getting locked out of the ipod controls. My old ipod died and it is frustrating trying to access music on the new one. From my understanding the workaround is to go into simple ipod mode. To do this you flip the two right hand switches down on the DICE unit. I have tried doing this both with the DICE unit plugged in as well as with it unplugged and the car off. I then plugged the DICE back in, turned the car on, placed the ipod in the dock and... no change. It seems to have no effect on my ipod or even the text on the radio. From what I have read, when those switches are down you are supposed to regain control on the ipod, however lose your ID3 text on your radio. I still have my text and my ipod is still locked. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong? I really, really miss my ipod controls. I can live without the ID3 text.

All DIP switches will need to be in the DOWN position for Simple iPod mode. Then perform the following steps:

1. Disconnect iPod from cable
2. Remove battery cables, negative first
3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system.
4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes
5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed.

Keep in mind you will lose all DICE enhanced features when doing so - include text display. Let me know if these steps correct the problem

The iPhone is compatible with 1 exception - charging. The iPhone uses a USB charging circuit while all other iPods are firewire.

DICE is looking into a solution and we will present it to the forums when completed.
Any updates on this? I have a 3G iPhone and have been planning to get a hook-up, but I want to be sure I'm getting something that will work.

3G iPhone specific cables are in production and expected to ship in early Dec.

Guess I'll wait, then. The charging is an issue. :(

I have an HD radio question too but I'll ask in the other thread.

Links for Dice all in one post (requested)

Hi guys,
I'm new to Dice after having failed with the Belkin TuneBase FM2 transmitter (see installation pic below) and currently working on the classic decision (i.e., trunk or radio) for my analog non-DSP MID no-CD-changer-but-the-connectors-are-all-there USA E39.

If it helps, I'm trying to find all the information before I buy and install and write up the howto (as you know I always do, reference A, B, C, etc.).

As a start to my unwritten-as-yet Bimmerfest E39 writeup, here are some references I've collected together, into one post.

Do you suggest any others?

You've got a lot of info there already, it would take you longer to read through all that than the install itself. :)

Tom,

Greetings. I bought the DICE adapter for my 2004 BMW X3 (no CD changer, no navigation system). I installed it, and it works... about half of the time. The other half of the time, it does not regognize my iPod (I've tried it with 3 different ipods, with the same problem each time). Half of the time, it will not give me the "DICE" screen and logo on my ipod, and only the radio will work.

I've tried plugging and unplugging at red lights, and powering down the car and iPod in parking lots... it doesn't seem to make a difference. It works when it wants to and does not work when it doesn't want to.

Any advice? It's really frustrating...

All the best,

Scott

What are you referring to as "powering down the car"? Can you explain in detail?

I turn off the car, unplug the ipod, and give it a minute or more, then turn it back on. I have not disconnected the battery or anything like that.

Update: Now it just won't work at all. It worked half of the time yesterday, and some of the time on Wed (that's when I installed it). I'm getting no response between the iPod, DICE kit and the radio. Everything is connected properly and plugged in corectly, etc.
