I have a code P1343 and it's misfire in cylinder one. I searched and could not find which cylinder is No1: by radiator or windshield? Thanks in advance.

misfire in cylinder one
From now on, anyone who has an undiagnosed misfire is asked to go to the the VERY best of E39 Links :
- How to diagnose a BMW E39 engine misfire (1) & a cold-engine intermittent misfire (1)

And follow that diagnostic tree.

AFAIK, there is nothing that will be suggested in this thread (or any other thread), that is NOT already in that diagnostic tree (although I might have missed something - which is why you must go to that diagnostic tree).

After you follow that diagnostic tree, you're asked to report back, whether you have more questions or if you found the solution.

If we all follow this advice, we'll not only have a fantastic E39-specific misfire diagnostic tree - but we'll also not have to answer the same questions time and time and time again - and - better yet - the OP will get better & more complete answers sooner.

Bluebee, I have just stated in my original post that I had a misfire in cylinder No 1. My question was not about the misfire. My question was about the numerical order of the cylinders.
And yes, I looked at the best links on misfire and and searched.
Thank you Fudman and Edjack for responses.

My question was about the numerical order of the cylinders.
I agree with you that the cylinder numbering and firing order is an important question for a misfire thread! :)

So I personally PUT it in the misfire thread at the time that I said what I had said above. And I pointed back to this thread as to why I put it there.

I AGREE with you that it wasn't originally in the misfire diagnostic thread - and that I put it in the misfire thread - and then I posted that post so that others here would find what they need in the misfire thread. I linked this thread to that one; and I linked that thread to this one. (I do that to make it easier for users when they hit either thread during a search.)

So, we're wholly in sync!

Let's continue to add to the misfire diagnostic tree anything that you find you need that isn't yet in the misfire diagnostic tree. Deal?

I'll reproduce the firing order information here (copied verbatim from the aforementioned misfire-diagnostic thread).

V8 M62, M62TU, Firing order... 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2

  • Rear of engine
    • 4-------------8
    • 3-------------7
