MCU controlled Interface for Carsoft 6.5 which is compatible with the original interface. Fully digital line switchings and MCU controlled service reset timing.

Main Functions:
Digital total test: It gives you a complete idea of the overall condition of the car
Digital single test: It gives you detailed information about the appropriate control unit. Stored errors will be shown in a written report. This report has a short info-text which help you to eliminate the error.

Things we know it can do:
-diagnose and reset ABS light
-change odometer reading from miles to KM
-can view O2 sensor readings, timing, vanos advance, rpm, coolant temperature, airflow, injector signals etc.
-can diagnose and reset DME, Aibag, ZKE, EGS and Instrument cluster fault codes as well as initiating autolocking options, changing between display units (temp in F or C, distance in miles or kilometres etc.), viewing live data and resetting service and oil change intervals.
-ABS complete diagnostics and reset
-view real time data from your car as it runs

two posts at the other forum claim it can change daytime running lights to either off or on <-but i have not seen anything else about this anywhere.. would like to here from the experts
EDIT: it can not do this, in fact it really can't write any coding to the car except trivial things like change miles to km's, language, change clock format

what type of serial port do you need, my laptop has a female port that seems to be the same as a monitor plug.

I suspect that's a VGA port, i.e. a monitor port. Serial is (to my knowledge) ONLY male on the computer. If it's blue it's definitely VGA

Anyone have any success with a cheap serial to USB cable? My macbook pro doesn't have 1980's tech on it

. It does have windows (four varieties!) so that's not an issue. I also kinda hate the idea of giving some guy $20 to pirate software (though at $20 he's just building cables)

Thanks for the codes list above. I've printed it off and placed it in my Carsoft book. Just to sync up, when you describe functionality, you are describing functionality I believe from version 6.5.06 correct, not 7.3?

the software sent to me by the HK seller was in fact 6.5.05
i got another version sp1 upgrade and upgraded it to 6.5.06 (much better)

7.3 is not available for me yet, plus i hear its another hardware upgrade
the advantage to 7.3 is compadibility with newer cars

Totally agree. I am also running 6.5.06 and learning as I use it as I've found no complete users manual.

I also read in the BMWECU site for tips and tricks. No major ones spotted yet.

Ive been playing with Carsoft all last night and today 24 hours in total
i need to edit the second post, as there are things (most things) this software can not do

basically, Carsoft is a glorified Peake tool that does (A Bit) more then the Peake reading tool
it will reset all errors including airbag, abs, and of course check engine

it will not write/code (anything worthwhile) to the car, with the exception of Miles/KM's 12/24 hour clock, default language stuff
it claims to be able to give the option of locking doors when moving... but neither i, nor any others I've seen can get this to work

it can however give you a good diagnosis of whats wrong with your car, and explain it fairly well.
it of course does the basic, reset oil change/service inspection
it also has a live mode that enables you to see what is running and how fast/big/hot its running at while your driving/idling your car
it gives a live readout of all the sensors in your car in real time - kinda cool
another neat feature is a section to test all your windows/power locks/windshield wipers etc.. with a simple mouse click. - this is great for example, checking to see if your drivers window switch is faulty or its the motor, you can use your mouse and click open drivers window., if it opens, its your switch, if it doesn't, its your motor.

so everyone that expects this software to program all the extras will be GREATLY disappointed (like i was)

BUT to compare this to Peake tool or any other handheld reader reset tool like that,, this stands above all the rest.

plus if you compare prices on Ebay..

$20 for Carsoft
$140 - $220 for a peake tool that wont do airbag reset?

conclusion:
Although i was very disappointed in the lack of coding this Carsoft can do.. like none
it can do absolutely EVERYTHING else, resets every error, explains all errors, and scans/resets all modules, check out your car modules in real time.
it was money well spent, this is by far the best scan/reset tool available on the market and for $20.. its worth double what peake tool is/does

if you want to know any particulars,, please post here, and I'll let you know

as for me... I'm done with this software,, and on to BMW scanner/pasoft, inpa GT1/SSS .. with these toys(software) you can do most any coding including all the things i expected Carsoft to do

Nice review. For example, it apparently changes the cluster display language, it changes the mileage to kilometers, the clock to military, it opens the windows, it turns on the AC when you tell it to, etc.

So to clear this up, it will NOT let you program the keys to the settings you want.
I.E. 1 click unlock all doors, Daytime Running Lamps, lock while driving...

So far, all of us who have chimed up have found that while two options exist on the menu to recode how the locks will operate, it dosent' seem to work. No one's figured out the trick to get it to work.

here's a picture of the diagnosis tab
you can perform all diagnosis on all of the modules on your car or you can do it one at a time and get good detail from each.

the second picture is the erase error in memory tab so you can see all that it can erase

i also attached a picture of carsoft's glossary of terms, so you'll know what each means

I've done every test/erase with this software one at a time. and noticed a few things that are not explained in the manual:
if you run "adaptation values -> erase EGS and DME/ME"
your car will start running like crap.. missing, sluggish, even chugging and backfiring.
what you have just done is erased all the stored codes for your area/climate/altitude etc. and your car now has to learn it all over again,, so not to fret,, let it idle for 15 mins, and drive it around for 30 mins, and all will be well again. what it says is erase adaptation values.. your computer adapts to your conditions constantly so it runs well in any condition, by erasing it, your car no longer knows how to run in your conditions till it relearns it.
this also happens when you erase some of the error messages in the erase stored error memory.

one last thing i had a problem with
on my car when i ran "total diagnostic" scans it gave me an error "HKL" which according to the glossary is a stored error in the air conditioning module.
BUT
there is no single test for it so i cant see exactly whats wrong with it,, also there is no erase memory for it, so i can't erase it either..
btw "Airco" is not the same as HKL because it did not error and i erased it anyway and everything stayed the same. no change in HKL error log.
so, i have something wrong with my air conditioning, but i cant find out what exactly, and i cant erase it to see if it trips again,, i guess ill have to wait for summer to find out if it still works or not

This software looks interesting but getting confused at what it will/wont do.

Will it display any CEL code?
Will it let you rest the service counter without worry of erasing important data?

i.e. for the price will it do what a Peake device does?

A Word of Warning !!!

There have been a couple of mentions on previous posts of Carsoft zapping OBC's.
I can vouch for the veracity of this.
I have used it on both my 540's & found on one occassion that I lost all the phone numbers & the clock settings-not a biggie but concerning nonetheless.

BUT------I ran it on my brothers 740il,ran a full diagnosis no probs,reset the airbag light ok but when we changed the speedo from k's to miles(just for a play) the PC went into overdrive.
The result was:OBC blank-no stereo,phone -nada!!Fuel guage & speedo all over the place on startup.
Result;the OBC was shot beyond repair requiring new replacement,also,the instument cluster had to be replaced.

Cost - $NZ1100 & one unhappy brother.

I have to stress we did nothing other than what I have described.

So,just a heads up for what its worth.

Good advice on your experience. Does anyone know if this is a feature of 6.5.06 or some error in our use procedures? I'd think there would be legal actions back to Carsoft if this was a normal occurance for their original code.

I was hoping that that for the price this version of Carsoft would read my CEL codes and do my service resets (and it does) vs. a wire between pins. But at the expense of possible OBC damage guess not.

Its as they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch.
