2002 BMW 530i-Modification Edification

So as you all know i recently got a 2002 530i. I love it!. I took it in to have it checked out and it's doing alright. My BMW tech told me about Dinan products So I'm having some of that done. I scoured forums and the web looking at other peoples modifications on their e39s. I must say i"ve seen some real beauties. So when it comes to doing my modification on my e39 I've become overwhelmed with what's out there. I don't know anything at all about cars or mods, so when I come across things like "spoilers, lips, angel eyes, demon eyes, etc, etc,.. i'm sorta clueless as to where to begin. So i'd like to start a thread regarding modifications and educatiing a newbie like me so that i don't make a mistake purchasing stuff i really don't need. I would say that my first mod was debadging getting some better cup holders and doing the dinan upgrade, but beyond that i'm afraid to venture without being armed with some knowledge. So please all of you help a brother out. Show me pics of stuff tell me what's good what's not etc. etc. For examples.. I see a roof spoiler--- umm what's it for?.. does it serve a purpose?..or is it mainly to addon stuff to the car?.. Thanks, I hope to get some or all of your inputsss.

Hey TS, click my sig for some suggestions on what to upgrade. Dinan makes AWESOME stuff but they are extremely pricey. I've also posted 4 stages of my planned upgrades (after the ones I've already done previously). Hope this helps. And grats on the 530. You got a great ride!

I haven't seen the Dinan roof spoiler you are referring to but roof spoilers are generally functional in the sense that they do increase downforce at high speeds. With everyday use, the gain is so minimal that you can consider it to be aesthetics only ;)

The very first thing I would do if it were mine would be the following mod

Read it all then read the procedure about four or five times order the seals
read onece more and make the install--you think your car runs well now
after doing the new seal install --she'll really turn on---You have the m54 engine
and BMW has used the computer to mask a lot of the Vanos problems--once the new seals
are installed you will then find what you where missing

+1 on Poolmans suggestion. I just ordered the kit and will be doing this in the next two weeks. The reason......Better performance!

Thanks for your inputss.. here's what i've done so far

hey guys,
To start off I got the windows tinted and got me a better cup holder. Then I decided to start with modifying the performance of my 2002 530i, not saying that it was not performing well to begin with. It was good as it was when I got it. But I was curious. Could it even be just a little better. hmm why not. So I did a few dinan upgrades.
I did the following:
Stage 3 software
Cold air intake
throttle body
free flow exhaust (for m-tech rear bumper which i'll get eventually).

After i got the car back, my tech told me that the throttle will feel much more responsive.etc etc.. all this car jargon. You guys have to understand I'm clueless when it comes to cars. I really didn't give a sh*t about 'em. Just as long as it would get me from point "A" to point "B". Performance?.. what did that mean?.. then I got behind the wheel of a BMW 530i.

Back Story:
Okay so I've been alway driving second hand lemons hand me downs over 100k salvage title vehicles. As long is it would get me to places safely i was alright with them. for years i've drove these cars (lemons, salvage title oldsmobile, nissan sentra). Going to lunch one day I drove by a used car lot and there was a sign on a car " $1500.00 down", so i decide to take a lookie. It was 04 325ci it drove okay... I liked the interior etc.. nice car. but still little to pricey. So went home did more research went to another car lot and test drove a 525i.. it too was okay little bigger. Then went to another lot and the sales guy tried to convince me to go with a benz.. "you know if you want a more plusher ride.. etc. etc.. "why don't you test drive both". He had a benz and 530i on the lot. So I took the benz e320 for a drive.. yes it's a beautiful ride. Then I got in the 530i and took off and I just was like "damn!..I couldn't make up my mind now".. because both were good.. the BMW you feel it.. my tech told me .. it's driver's car.. whatever that meant.. but I loved it. So i went home did more research .. and test drove the 530i again.. and yes I loved the rush I got. So I had to get it.

Present :

So I took my ride out with the dinan upgrades and drove it around. My tech guy calls up and asks "well .. so how's it?."..
"drives like my ride.. really can't tell the diff" I replied.
"give it few days drive it around more.. you'll see."he said.
"yeah i guess i gotta take this baby out to the freeway or something" I told him. So on a weekend I took the 530i.. out on the freeway..heheh.. omg... i let her go.. 80- 90.. 100.. 120,, damn... and it still could do more.. but of course there were cars in the way and I was kinda getting kinda freaked out bout how fast she could go and then some. but it was still smooth and solid...is this what he was talking 'bout. I thought. So I came back and called him and told him 'bout my experience and he just had a chuckle. Now I'm getting the dinan suspension done. I'm doing all this before I get the exterior going. Now I need to find a decent bmw driving school. My tech guy advise me to join the BMW car club. I had already done so. Geez guys i'm so addicted. It's no m-5 or m-3 or porsche or SKYline(hehe I had my eyes on this one I admit). but I really love this 530 and want it to be the best it can be. And I really do appreciate you guys in here helping me out with advice and all that good stuff.. Thanks again .. I'll keep you guys posted on the upgrades.
