Is there somewhere to follow your progress/to see you document it? Would be VERY interesting as I have a 318 I want to power up from it's impotent M43...

 

You might also check to see what oil pan is required for that motor to fit in a e36. I think I read somewhere that the e39 m52 uses a different oil pan then the e36 M52.

 

E39 does use a different oil pan. It has the cutout for the oil level sensor, and the oil pickup end had a different shape.

Radiator, the 4cyl rad is much smaller from what I remember.

Keep in mind the auto harness has extra connectors for the auto trans and controller. Cut them out or just zip tie them out of the way. It’ll work fine.

you also need to make the splice from the engine harness the body harness. I’m not sure if that’s plug and play.

you also need to address the exhaust. The e36 non ti mid pipe might fit. The cat back prob won’t since the ass of the ti is like a e30. Might be easier to get a ebay long tubes and fab something up.
