What year is the car? I got my '00 with 95K on it. Eventually you will have to throw a nice chunk of money for parts and repair, but if you can afford the maintenance and insurance costs go for it. Any pics BTW?

 

A number like 108K isn't usually too scary for those cars if it's mostly highway miles. Probably not a lot of regular maintenance required at thgis point beyond oil changes and wear parts (brake pads, tires, etc.)

If a lot of those are "around town" miles, you might want to look real hard at it.

 

Thrust arms are likely to be toast, not a particularly difficult DIY one weekend, if they've not been done before.

get a car fax, makes sure no major dammages were done. i got a 97' w/187,000.runs smooth

 

very reliable car if taken care of. i have seen a few w/300,00 miles, smoke a little but hard to kill.

 

bought my 2000 528i with 101,000 on it. No service history available, but PDI checked out and I have been happy 5k miles later. PM it and it will serve you well.

 

Worth it.

Bought mine at 90k, and is now about 140k, still going strong... very happy with it every time I drive...

Only things I HAD to change was brakes, and leaking themostat which is common, but there is a fix...

Bought my '99 528 at 50,000 miles, now at 105,000. Besides maintenance, I had a camshaft position sensor go out, the ASC/ABS control unit, and a valve cover gasket. Otherwise I replaced pads and rotors, and all of the cooling system (except the radiator itself) and regular oil changes, along with lubing the gearbox and the rear diff.

 

make sure u take it to get it looked at these cars are prone to have major abs problem I have a 98 528i and I have had nothing but abs problems, i have had to replace all abs speed sensors and minor air filters just make sure you look under the car and at all sensors before you buy it? I have replaced RADIATOR WATER PUMP, ABS SENSORS, AIR FILTERS ALL ROTORS PADS, MINOR SWITCHES, SENSORS I HAVE 125,000 MILES THOUGH MOSTLY HIGHWAY?

 

Do all you folks that posted have manual tranny's? surprised no one mentioned tranny issues of any kind.

Why? I`ve auto trany on my car ,didn`t have any options with trany[ prefer stick] but bought car with only 24K original miles from old couple.

 

hi i bought a 535i '98 with 150k miles on it mostly motorway, full bmw dealer history, and the only things i've had done are disc's, pads,both rockerb cover gaskets,viscous coupling and thats it. its now done 160k and is going in for inspection 2 at bmw dealer £296, so all in all not that bad and mind mines the v8. hope that helps

 

535's were V8's? I thought just the 540. :dunno:
