Hello experts

I have bmw x5 2008 4.8i (E70)
I have to get AC compressor replaced and I am trying to find the correct part number. The problem is that I come across two different part numbers
a) 64 52 9 185 144 ( only for cars with clutchless compressor)
b) 64 52 9 185 145 ( only for cars with magnetic clutch compressor)

I am not sure which one will fit my car and gow would I know if my car would need a clutchless or magnetic clutch compressor.

Please advise

OP. Just a note of caution....

1. KNOW that your compressor is truly bad. Is this a solid diagnosis, or an off hand? Was it a freebie? Or someone did a pumpdown?
2. Are you installing? Or a qualified mechanic? Understand that a failed AC comp can spread crap throughout the closed system, which can in turn ruin other components. (In prior lives I would replace the receiver drier AND do a very thorough 3x flush to get all the garbage out. Dont just 'bolt it up and drive to the AC shop'
3. Search by VIN number. Buy from a vendor that collects the VIN so there is no confusion.
4. Dont spend more that $20 on ebay. ;)

Compressor Control/Evaporator Control
The cooling power of the system is determined by the potential evaporating capacity of the evaporator. The A/C compressor draws in the gaseous refrigerant from the evaporator, compresses it and sends the refrigerant to the condenser. The refrigerant, which liquifies in the condenser expands via the expansion valve at the evaporator.

A/C compressors in the E70 with N52 are equipped with a magnetic clutch and an exter nal control valve.
N62 engines that were built between 12/06 and 10/07 are equipped with a clutchless compressor with an electronic control valve.

As of 10/07 the N62 will also be equipped with an A/C compressor with magnetic clutch and a control valve. (E70 Climate Control Systems page 17 https://archive.org/download/BMWTec...TrainingDocuments/ST605 E70 Complete Vehicle/08_E70 Climate Control Systems.pdf)
