You get that message when you load new maps. An activation code that is peculiar to the map year and your VIN is required. If it was working OK and the message came up, then the system probably forgot the code for some reason.

 

So do I have to enter the VIN as activation code?

 

I believe this code can be purchased.

Well I just got the truck y'day. I'll ask the dealership when they open.

 

Yes the dealer should do this at the same time they fill out your assist paperwork and reset your codes. Don't forget to set up your Sirius too and cancel old subscriptions as I forgot and got tagged for $299 yesterday....

 

The dealer entered that as they were getting it ready for me to drive away. Either call and get it, or take it in. Either way, I'd say a pre delivery inspection fail. This is a checklist item.

 

Thanks Matt. It wasn't just the Nav, I didn't get full tank of gas either. On my way out of the dealership, I heard a ding and noticed the Fuel Reserve warning. I called the CA and told him how could he miss the pre-delivery checklist. He was rather embarrassed and he asked me to send him the gas receipt. He also sent a loaner with their driver all the way to my house to bring back my car to the dealership. Next eve my SAV was dropped off right on my driveway. He also called to tell me that he has added me to the VVIP list and whenever I need a loaner, they would send the driver to get my car to the dealership and deliver the loaner to my house/office. Considering the dealership is a good 40+mile drive I'm very impressed! All credit to you, I wouldn't have found out anything like a pre-delivery checklist.

 

My X5 has a letter in the glove compartment with the access code for the nav. It does say the code is specific to my VIN.
