Bavsound Installation

Anyone tried this on the F10? I'm trying to remove the front door panels, and am extremely frustrated. I'd rather just take it somewhere, but I don't trust anyone in this area to do it with care/proper service.

I've watched their installation video, and of course it looks way easier when they do it vs. my attempt. I've got as far as removing the anthracite, and door handle piece, but getting the actual panel off has me at my wits end.

Part of it may be that I don't want to break anything, but I have used a good amount of force.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your frustration. I've been considering their kit as well, and was picturing myself in exactly the predicament you're in. With my e46 I attemped a few upgrades that "seemed so easy" until I either broke something or couldn't figure out how to remove something that was supposed to be easy. After that, I vowed "never again", but am pretty disappointed w/ the stock system in the F10. Removing the door panels completely freaks me out despite watching that video several times. Anyway, I hope it works out or someone with installation experience lends some insight.

Thanks. I was starting to think it was just me and my less than stellar mechanical ability. I'm sure that's still a big part of it.

It's really too bad that BMW puts inferior stereo systems in any of their cars, stripped down or not. Part of my frustration has included thoughts of "screw you BMW for using sub-par audio", despite how much I like the rest of the car.

Maybe I'll see if my wife can do it!

hey guys I myself am not the most qualified on do it yourself projects, but that being said this was by far much easier than i had expected. it takes a little patience and i must admit i was brave on prying the panel off. All inept thinking was what if i break something? well let me just say these cars are not built cheap! they can take it. I also went to www.getbmwparts.com and ordered a few fasteners to replace the ones that are on the door panel just in case i did break any. needless to say i didn't but better safe than sorry and they only cost a few bucks for half a dozen or so and they deliver right away so I'm not waiting a week to start the project. I also set up the video on youtube and took my time carefully watching the demonstration. it really is not difficult at all. Below is a copy of the video url link that helped me and hopefully it will help you to. Good luck!

Let me make a suggestion. When your about to start pulling the panel off start at the front part of the door like in the video but when trying to pry off the panel off, wiggle your fingers and try to get a small space behind the panel. Then get a feel for where the fasteners are at. Once you feel it out, it like removing those stubborn buttons on a new pair of jeans. They are spaced out about every 6 inches apart or so. You'll see once you get the first fastener the rest is cake! Do it already!

We must have different cars! I have several clips loose on the top left side, the rest is not cake! In fact, I've tried just about everything. Used fingers, the tool, varying amounts of pressure in different spots....no luck.

Another 2 hours on this BS tonight and I haven't got anywhere.

I installed the Bavsound speakers a few weeks ago and they sound great. Whole process took about 3 hours and I did have some trouble with the first door. Here are some tips:

1. Before removing the door panel, I would suggest that you go on ebay or somewhere else and get some door clips. Here is an ebay link for the exact clips, but I don't think you need 10 of them. I broke 2 of them during my install, but was lucky enough to be able to re-use one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-2000-In.../271422691854?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f320d9a0e&vxp=mtr

2. I had a trim removal toolkit (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009QLBDSW/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and used the big tool on the left lift the panel. Start from either corners on the bottom.

3. The rear doors only have 1 screw behind the door handle so there is no need to remove the trim piece above. If you have side sunshades, you will need to remove those before proceeding to remove the door panel.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

My other question is how the bloody hell did you get this freaking door panel off?

I do have a toolkit that came with the speakers. It is a solid, well built set of tools and should be all I need.

I bought the same toolkit from Bavsound but had trouble getting the door panel off with just the plastic trim removal tool. Luckily I also had the big trim removal kit and it was much easier with the biggest tool in the kit. You get way more leverage with it.

I noticed that on the Bavsound Web site, in their FAQs, they mention that shops associated with bimmershops.com should be able to do their installation.

When I went to Bimmershops.com for my home town, there was even a 10% coupon code for Bavsound.com.

So, there might be an installation path for you there, through your local Bimmershops.com associate. I would trust them to do the task much more than I'd trust myself -- plus, there's a route back through Bavsound.com with which to rant, if they failed for some reason to make you 100% satisfied.

Thanks for the advice! I ended up contacting a buddy who was able to get the passenger panel off so that side is done. Just the drivers side left.

I can say I'm already seeing an improvement in the bass from the subs and I've only done four of the 14 speakers. Bavsound claims the bass is improved just from installing their speakers and from what I'm seeing, this claim appears to be true.

Are you saying ur F10 has rear window and quarter window sun shades?

If I remember correctly the rear door trim piece doesn't need to come off.

You are correct. Thank you. I spoke to another Bavsound guy again and he made it clear that the rear door trim piece does not need to be removed.

Yes, my F10 has a separate sunshade for the rear window and another sunshade for the quarter window. The quarter window sunshade folds into a pillar that separates the window and the quarter window. I'm still unsure as how to remove this pillar. :dunno: Any help would be appreciated. I have attached pictures of the pillar.
