Hmmm I believe the engine number is the VIN on our cars.

I just checked under my hood and no other specific numbers associated with the engine plate.

It might be the last 6 or 7-characters starting with the last 2 alphabetical letters and 5-digits?

 

It's hidden. Actually had to call the dealer! (All numerical)

 

Mine's a UK car & the engine number's on the vehicle registration document V5c. It's an 8 digit number and not part of the VIN.

No idea how you would verify it looking at the engine itself.

Where did your dealer say you'd find it??

 

Hey, just a (long) follow up to this. Usually when traveling overseas to specific countries, the registrars want the engine number to ensure nothing has happened with the vehicle. On the BMW, the engine number is located in the rear of the engine. Yes, one would have to stretch his/her neck to find it. It's also on the order and shipping documents when you first got your new vehicle. Older models will need more a neck strain.

Most folks who stay in one place in the U.S. never have to worry about this...this is just for anyone looking.
