Hey guys I have a 98 bmw e39 523i. I was trying to code the 'us corners' with NCS EXPERT with no luck, then ordered the pa soft cable, trying to get into the coding menu of LCM it displays error message with 'not avaible for this coding index, yet!'. Does that mean my LCM is just too old and not programable? Secondly, if I decide to upgrade it with a newer one is it just plug and play or what do I have to consider? Year, model etc? Thank you for your answers!

Yep, your LCM is probably too old. LCM 3 or newer is required for coding.

Replacing the LCM will require re-programming the VIN and the ZCS (options code) into the new LCM, and zeroing the mileage out on the LCM to prevent a mileage tamper dot from appearing.
