Coolant smell, no leak

Hello,

Over the past week I have a faint smell of coolant in the cabin. My forum search turns up the likely culprit being a leaking heater core.

When I check the coolant reservoir, it's at the max level. When I put cardboard under the car at night, I find no stains in the morning. Immediately before the smell appeared, I had the car at my indy for a "vehicle check" per idrive's insistence, and the mechanic said he checked for coolant leaks and found no issues.

Is there any other possible explanation for this? Perhaps there's a fluid leak that I'm misidentifying as coolant due to similar smells.

Thank you,
-T

I thought I had a very minor leak one time, had it all check, couldn't find anything, turned out one of my kids spilled some of their caramel frappe in my car and it smelled exactly the same.

I am sure it leaks inside the heating core, you probably smell more when turn on the heater. Sorry for you, you need heating system in your car. Here in tropical zone we need don't the heating system, then we just plug up the hoses goes inside the cabin. You have to remove the dashboard panel to get into the heating core to inspect and it's pain of the ass. Good luck

Small update here. I may be crazy, but I've noticed that I only really smell the coolant at the same intersection every day on the way to work. It's a stop light on a decline, so it might be that tilting the car forward allows the leak to happen, and on level ground the leak stops.

Or...perhaps there was a collision at that intersection that spilled a lot of coolant, and because we've had no rain for several weeks it's still on the ground.
