Hi all. Long time watcher, never joined or posted…I’m shy, lol. Anywho, about a week ago I was driving along in my 18 440i about 3 miles from home at about 40mph when I smelled what seemed like burning rubber, plastic, etc. a few seconds later I got a drivetrain malfunction. The car was still running and it said continued driving possible so I eased the car home. After scanning for codes, it was a misfire on cylinder 6, injector shutdown, etc. I swapped around coils, new plug, etc. and would still show cylinder 6 misfire. I ordered a new Bosch injector and the removal tool as well as new seals, seal tool etc, and replaced the cylinder 6 injector just to see if that was indeed the issue. After clearing the codes and starting….Same issue. Where should I go from here? Does that injector have to be coded in, is it just not being recognized by the dme? Or do I need to assume the worst and go ahead and try to check compression and do a leak down and prepare for a motor swap? If that’s the case, where’s a good place to get a new b58? Any good Indy shops in Nc? While I’d love to have it done at the dealership, my wallet can’t take it. Anyone else with same experience? Please give me SOMETHING positive lol, my soul is hurting at the moment….Car is tuned on bm3 stage 2+. Has AP intake, full Akrapovic Evolution exhaust, Dorch stage 1, xHP stage 3, etc. although tuned…My car was not abused. I absolutely LOVE this car and for the most part have babied it. I’ve only ran E blends maybe 5 times in the past year, other than that all 93. Currently sits at 60k, injectors have never been replaced.

I had a DTM on the highway and had to stop and towed to dealer (turned out to be bad fuel injector). They replaced the bad injector and the one they put in was also bad so they replaced that too; and the spark plugs that got fouled up with gas/fuel. Cost me 4 digits coz that's what it is, BMW...Bring My Wallet. Good luck!

I’m about to check the compression now. For the hell of it I decided while ago to ohm the new injector vs the old. Weird thing… They both read the same, 1.8. If the original injector failed why would it still be reading like new? Hopefully a compression test will give me some insight. If it checks good on cylinder 6, idk what the hell to do at that point. Also from what I’m reading some people say the new injector needs to be coded to work, others say it doesn’t so I’m not sure what to believe there. I spoke to one gentleman that had the same issue and his ran fine without coding. I’m not saying whether or not it should be done, I’m on the fence of it should if it’s a possibility but rather does it have to be to run? Seems like the answer here is no. Either way, I’m in a jam it seems.

It also seems the DTM pops up after a second of the ignition being on (car not started) after supposedly clearing codes using BM3. Kindof makes me wonder if it’s even clearing the faults. Of course the injector would not operate if the code was stored. Not sure what to do there.
