Spiral or a fluted extractor. Soak it in PB Blaster overnight

Do NOT overtighten it; for some reason people thing this holds the rotor on. It's just a set screw to position the rotor.

And what, exactly, would that have done, except make alot of noise?

If you are replacing the rotor, and have exhausted the extractor method, cut a slot in the head with a dremel and use an impact driver (the manual kind) to back it out.

Failing that, drill the head off with a carbide/nitride drill bit and back the stub out with a Vise-Grip after soaking/heating.

I've been wrenching on cars for 30 years and I never cease to be amazed by the level of misinformation posted here. It's truly epic.

I once used an oversized torx bit socket and used a hammer to pound it into the hole making a tight fit. Then SLOWLY turned with a big ratchet. This is why I ALWAYS pay the extra $5 for new retainer nuts when I do rotors.
