The '07 X3 w/ Sport Package and 19" rims looks suprisingly good...I'd buy one for myself and I'm a guy....

 

Around here it's about 60/40 male/female drivers for the X3, as compared to about 20/80 male to female in the X5 (the X5 is the 'grocery/kid wagon' while the X3 is the 'sportster' I see guys commuting to work in). As far as age goes, 30's to 50's.

 

I think it depends on what X5 engine you choose. I see mostly women driving the 3.0i while its a split with the 4.4i and the 4.8si is mostly men.

 

We did get the X3 for my wife; however the thing looks so nice (with upgraded 18" wheels) that I have been driving it alot lately and have no problems with it or my perceived "image" in it. Its a fun vehicle to drive around.

Unlike Disden, we purchased the X3 primarily for myself, however my wife loves it so much that it's become "her" vehicle In the interim, I have now ordered myself a 2007 Honda Civic SI which should keep me buzzing around town quite happily.

On a related note, I find it curious how many of these gender-based threads have been surfacing as of late. I think the X3 is quite an androgynous vehicle, and infact, it's target damographic base was the least of our considerations when we purchased our '05 two years ago..

didn't mean to imply I have prob because women like it. it's just interesting to see who's driving these things sometimes. Down here I see grandmas driving giant SUVs all the time. All you see when looking over is little hands on the steering wheel. kind of scary. Also have no clue how a 4 foot tall grandma gets down from one of them?

Anyway, x3, I like the looks.esp 18 or 19's and the sports pack. the side skirt is nice. my prob is they didn't drop the turbo in...yet

Back in an issue of Roundel (Feb.2006), they quoted that the sales figures for the X3 at that time were 55% women in the US.

I think these questions come up when someone (me included) is concerned that they are going to catch sh_t from their friends, colleagues (and in my case my brother) for getting what they perceive to be a cute-ute. To these people, to only SUV/SAV's worth buying are Range Rovers, Cayennes, or Chevy Tahoes. I posted a thread last week or so questioning the cute-ute image of the X3. As much as I like the X3, it does have that ilk of being a cute-ute which in endears it more to women than men. Interestingly, my wife is one woman who would not get an X3. She thinks I'm crazy for considering it (she drives an Audi allroad) and feels that it's inadequate for family/dog hauling because of its small size.

I don't seem to get that from anyone regardless of if I'm driving the X3 or the Lexus ES300 (which by the way could be considered even more "feminine" than the X3). And I'm in the 17-19 year old age bracket, one that seems to care most about "image"..........

I don't care if it's fem or masc I was just curious about demographics. some things are just interesting regardless of purchasing decisions. personally the thing holding me back is the engine not the looks. I think it looks good. I found when talking to owners they tend to be women so it made me curious and, unfortunately, didn't result in any dates. turns out all women who own x3's are married. and faithful. (or I'm too ugly for them and not masculine enough because I'm thinking of getting an x3)

60 y.o. male. My other rides are an 02 Supercharged Mustang GT Conv., An 06 Chevy SSR. The X3 is my DD. Love it. Some people did ask me why I'm driving a womans car. Just busting you know whats. The X3 is a drivers car. It certainly handles like one.

Hey more women are driving X5 than men. Doesn't seem to make a difference in opinion. Also, by the lates studies and stats - there are no female/male cars. The only two that got close is the Mercedes SL 500 AMG (no female buyers) and Mitsubish Eclipse (62% female buyers).

 

I'm sure there are regional differences that even out the numbers, but from what I've seen in the LA area, there are least 4 to 1 women to men driving the X3. Doesn't make sense to me, as I thought women liked cars with a smooth ride more like the Lexus.

Doesn't really matter to me, I just liked the way it looked and drove.

 

Yeah, Lexus, all models, are definitely for "ladies". They were designed from the ground-up to be this way.

As for other cars, I've always thought of the Mercedes-Benz CLK as more feminine and the Porsche Boxter as a girlfriend car (real men drive 911's ).

You should definitely not get an X3 if you think it's a girls car. It's OBVIOUS that only chicks drive X3's, and if people see you driving an X3, they'll think you're gay. You may get fingers pointed at you and hear laughing from cars next to you at while at stop lights. The negative attention you get may get so bad, you may be forced to wear a paper bag over your head while you drive. Don't do it guy, your manhood is at stake! What you should do, is get your hands on an H2 with 22" wheels, with spinners and a chrome cattle guard. That way, no one will be able to say you drive a girls car. I know you won't let me down man.

interesting how hung up people get on fem image comments. I don't even think it looks like a chick car I just notice a lot more women than men driving them. Don't you? You know you do. And you're right who cares. I don't, do you?

Like I mentioned 4 times I could care less. the X3 is TOO SLOW not too GAY. And what's wrong with being gay? I like gay cars. I just hate chick cars. (that was a joke. I don't like gay cars or chick cars)

Let's not forget about age issues! I won't let my partner get a Lexus ES350 because it looks like "an old person's car". Atleast to me. However, he could get the GS350, it looks sportier! Actually, I have him talked into a 328xi or maybe an M. I didn't have any gender or other issues with the X3, it fit all my needs so who cares.

Motor Trend magazine recently conducted a nationwide public opinion survey in which respondents were asked to name the gayest car on the road. An astounding 72% of all respondents named Mazda's convertible roadster, the Miata, as the gayest car in America.

When reached for comment, Mazda Motors president, James O'Sullivan, expressed surprise at the survey results. "The Miata is the crown jewel of our fleet. I can assure you it is not now, nor has it ever been gay. Erm, not that there's anything wrong with that."

When asked his thoughts on how the public might have gotten the wrong impression about Mazda's sporty, mid-priced roadster, O'Sullivan grew reflective. "I mean, sure, we do offer the car in bright purple….. And yes, the onboard GPS comes pre-programmed with Bob Damron's Men's Travel Guide…. And uhm, it does ship with a factory-applied HRC bumper sticker…. But the Miata gay? That's just plain crazy."

Even so, O'Sullivan says car enthusiasts can expect some design changes with the 2007 model.

"The Miata convertible has been a flagship model for us, but based on this survey it's clear we need to butch it up a little. Our design engineers are already at work and trust me, it's going to be a total rebuild! All testosterone, with powerhouse V8 engine, monster car mag wheels standard.
