I need to remove the lower dash panel, right side, on my 1997 convertible, without removing the glove box if possible. Can this be done? My Bentley manual shows the procedure for removing the glove box, but that is not what I need and I have not found a DIY that covers it. Has anybody tried to do the job this way? If so, I would appreciate the input. The panel appears to be secured under the front portion of the glove box. Thanks in advance.

Short answer is, yes, the glove box has to come out.
The long answer is, the lower panel can be removed without taking the glove box out, but not without damaging the panel connection points. I.E. brute force. Don't.

I'm not pospositive but I just looked at up in my 94 325is and it looks like that panel is only secured under (behind) the glove box and then pulls out of a slot Iin the panel below it.
I take it you got something stuck and jamming up the glove box so it won't open?

Thanks for the replies so far. I had a hunch that the glove box must be removed, but just checking. Nothing is jammed, but that little rectangular fittings on the underside of the panel seems to be pushed up inside; I am not sure what they are, looks like they are ventillation fittings and need to be re-seated in the panel. The previous owner had small children and I suspect they may have been kicked by small feet.
