E60 Fuel Gauge Not Working

I replaced the fuel pump and sending unit on my 06 530xi. Took care of the issues with fuel performance I was having. However, twice now the vehicle has run out of gas but showing just under a quarter tank and plenty of miles to go till empty. Is there a calibration or adjustment I need to make on the float to get the gauge to read correctly?

Might be an issue with the fuel sending unit hanging on something in the tank. Maybe on the line connecting the two pumps (I assume you have a pump and level sensor on the left and right sides of the tank)?

Yes, the units are separate. Sending unit with float is on the drivers side, pump is on the passenger side. Thanks. I'll have to pull it back out and make sure.

At least in my wife's 2009 X5, while under warranty, something was replaced in the tank and the mechanic didn't put it back together carefully and one of the floats? was hung up and causing false readings.

There are actually 2 sending units, one with the pump and one on the other side. If you didn't do both sides, replace the other one. My '06 530xi did the same thing.
