Hey guys
So my frm module went bad and I have no power to anything in the car no lights no windows etc.. so I'm trying to buy a used one and swap it the question is should I buy the same exact one with part number and everything ? Cause I'm not able to find something similar to mine my car is 328xi 2010 so does it affect anything if I bought a used one from a 2011 or 2009 ? Please reply

You need a FRM3. If you have adaptive HLs and Xenon be sure you get the right one. Anything from 2010 or newer.
Can I get any frm3 ? Mine are halogen headlights or does the part number needs to match ?

No it doesn't have to match but try and get one from another E series 2010 or later. You'll need to have it default coded to your car and I'd also use winkfp to update/write your VIN to it.

I'm going to suggest you should probably find a good independent BMW garage to do this. If what I'm saying doesn't make sense to you, this is outside your scope of knowledge. Even if you bought a new replacement part from BMW it would still need to be coded/programmed to your car. Modules aren't something you can just replace and it's ready to go.

There's a recall for certain models for the FRM module. My local dealership just changed mine. I took my car in for the recall on airbags and the nox sensors. The airbags wasn't available. But they changed the nox sensors and the FRM module. This was a month ago. Contact your nearby dealership not your independent shop and/or go to the bmwna site to make sure that your vehicle is and the right model to be covered. As for mine, bmw picked up the whole bill.
