How do you afford your BMW?

I've always wondered how the many relatively young members of this forum afford bmws. Are you guys just well-off, or are you paying a lot more of your income for transportation than I was willing to do at your age?

Define young...

20's and low 30's.

Get an education and a good job? Have daddy and mommy buy you the car?

I'm 30 and I have an MD at the back of my name...I'll never own a Ferrari but I can sure afford a Bimmer...or a Merc...or an Audi...or a lower end Porsche...

Actually, be a nurse, they seem to drive around in E-series Mercs where I work.

"Plastics"

Depends on what you want to get out of life.

Seems to me that making your financial wealth top priority above other things can net you a fair wad of cash.

Skimp on the social life.
Skimp on morals.
Skimp on family.
Skimp on entertainment.
Or some combination of above.
Drop all that time and energy on sales commissions, running your own business, going to law school, going to med school, do consulting on the side, make wise decisions on the market, marry for money, divorce for more, scam grannies...

all of these are ways to go beyond a chicken in the pot. Question is - do you really want it?

I'm in the low 30's and my income can afford my 335i.....but I am fortunate enough that my agency covers my lease.

You know I hate to say this but eventually someone will catch on, I would rather get it out of the way now and let people judge me for who I am.

My parents are buying me the 335i, they have enough money to go around so I figured why not, I would feel better buying it myself but I can't pass it up. Could you? :dunno:

Been kind of keeping this on the down low considering I have seen the way most of you act towards someone fortunate enough to have their parents help out. Too many immature people on these forums that go on the attack when someone mentions "parents buying". When will people grow up and just accept that some parents buy their kids cars? :tsk:

Well that's how I am affording my 335i, sorry for the rant.

If my mom decided to buy me a bimmer I wouldn't argue with her. :dunno:

I love these threads (not). Can't wait for it to deteriorate into "Well you don't deserve such-and-such a car because you aren't paying for it yourself!!"

Some people on these boards are such bytches. Who cares how they afford it? Can't we all just love our BMWs (well I don't own one anymore) all the same?

:dunno:

I can afford my BMW because of WHO I AM!

An Embezzler.

(Hope my boss isn't on Bimmerfest - probably not - he drives a Buick)

I'm 22. I traded in my honda civic and i'm financing the rest of the payments.
Not too bad, paying around 320 a month. It's do-able. I guess I am paying a little more for car payments but it's soooo worth it, it's a BMW! Everyone else my age is driving... lol not even worth mentioning. Don't wanna waste kilobytes.

I'm 27. I was saving up money to buy a house, but then the housing market took a dump, and it looks like it's going to keep on crashing. So I decided to use that down payment money to get a bimmer instead. I thank God everyday that I didn't buy a house 1.5 years ago and bought a 335i instead. In fact, now that I have my car, I think I rather sleep in my bimmer than have my own house. :p

Bank criteria are out of whack, therefore the actual crisis... this is reason #1 why kids have BMWs. According to them, you can borrow money as long as your home/loans don't exceed 40% of your annual GROSS income. At the very least, it should be NET.

In 1979...i brought my first BMW brand new off the lot..320i...13.5K...I had a steady job worked hard and paid my note...I don't think things have changed that much that if you have a decent job and can make the payments, owning a BMW is not that hard...if you brought any car new or slightly used you still have to make the payments

Lucky stiff!

I only asked that because the OP was asking how some younger people can afford to buy and own BMW...assuming he is talking about newer cars.

I had help with my cars when I was 16 and 18 after than I have brought every car I've owned

Saved my money, lived within my means, drove my last car for 6 years and took some risks (in real estate among others) that paid off. Oh, and I worked my ass off at work for the past 4 years. And I'm 27.

Sorry I crossed party lines. I thought It was applicable no matter the year of the car. Point is I saved $14,247.74 myself, bought the car of my dreams at 17. Why in the world would I drive a car I can afford? I'd rather spend all weekend mucking through my own repairs than drive a civic
